So, I made the mistake of stopping by a gunshop the other day and walked out with a used Marlin Cowboy in 38-55. The original owner shortened the magazine so it now only holds four in the tube. Nice rifle, but I really like the full length mags. But for the price I couldn't pass it up. Last weekend I cast up 100+ Lee 250gr .379 bullets and loaded them over 10gr Unique and 17gr 2400 into fireformed 30-30 brass. I use these same loads in a 375 Marlin and Contender with good results. At 70 yards the 2400 printed 1.8" and the Unique printed 2.0". A fun gun to shoot and well worth $500.

You can always put a full length magazine tube back on it. That would restore it to it's original configuration and make it look right.

Hope this helps.

The case colored lever and receiver sight is a nice bonus too. Quite the deal you have found!
