I need a mold recommendation for a barrel that slugged out to .312 diameter. I use this rifle for plinking, but if I can get some decent groups, I might use this gun for one of my deer tags. I have a pretty good selection of powders to work with. I hope there is a mold out there because a custom mold is not in my plans. Thanks.

Try the Lee c312-185-1r. Works great for me.

I use the Lyman 314299 which drops boolits at 215 grs with WW's. For a lighter boolit I use the Lee C312-155-2R, which drops around 160 grs with my WW's and the boolits measure .313. Both shoot accurately in my Mosins. The Lees shoot the most accurate. The 314299 needs a good head of steam to shoot accurately in a couple of my Mosin 44's or they will keyhole.

NOE shows a few of their 314299 in stock.

I would certainly go with the NOE version! My NOE molds are some of the easiest casting molds I own. NOE molds also cast true to size and there is very little difference in cost.

I've shot hundreds of 314299's through 6 different MN's I've owned. All sized 314 except for M39 Finn which worked best with 311. My mold is an old Ideal SC which casts 313.5 on body and 303 on nose. Best accuracy with either H4198 or 2400.

.............Not that it necessarily pertains to your needs but if you can find a Lyman 200gr 8mm 323471 mould they work great in the "Fat 30;s". Lube-Size to .323" in a Lyman or other press. Then run it up through a Lee type push through die to your desired OD. Lyman has seen fit to drop both their Loverin 8mm designs (165gr 323470 and the heavy 210gr 323471) for some odd reason but they still turn up from time to time.

Thank you for all the informative responses. I decided to save up for a five cavity NOE 314299 mold. I rather buy a proven quality item, than take a chance with the cheaper one. I plan to shoot my Mosin in military rifle cast bullet shoots and I need every edge I can get because my 60 year old eys and back issues are always working against me.

Yep - the 314299 is the ticket....
I would caution you to mic the OD on your fired cases - to verify that a 314" bullet will chamber.... MANY mosins have tight chambers - and the 314" bullet won't chamber right..... especially with brass with thicker necks....

I ended up neck-turning a pile of my Mosin brass for dedicated Cast... exactly for that reason....

Thanks
