Hello Folks,

Have you read of this conversion? Was it successful. Is the S&W 686 suitable for the 41 Special?

Thanks, Tom

Wow google is fast. Took them less then 2 mins for your post to be searchable on google.

I looked on google and I found one reference to someone who had a 41 spec 686.

I think the hardest part would be to find a barrel that is .410

John Taffin had one made and wrote about it. He was happy with it. A .357 686 barrel can be rebored to .410. The 6 shot .357 cylinder can be rechambered into a .41. See bowenclassicarms.com or alphaprecisioninc.com for examples and prices.

If you want a nifty field gun, get a 4" 686 Mountain Gun barrel and have it rebored. S&W had them listed as available parts a while back, I haven't checked recently.

i believe dave clements at least used to do them. Alan harton might be another good one to check. He did a single six 41 special for me.

Wasn't somebody doing that conversion on GP-100s?

Actually Lloyd, I believe David still does Rugers and has quit listing work for S&Ws. His 10MM GP100 is really nice looking......

Wow! It would be super neato to have a moon clipped six shot GP-100 in .40 and/or 10mm. IMHO either is a step up from .357 and would load easier. (Let the flames begin...)

A 40 GP 100 would be nice, particularly if using the moon clips!

I think thats where S&W messed up on the 40 they made using some over complicated extractor system instead of a simple moon clip.

I think a 6 inch 40 wheel gun would be up and over a 357 ballisticly with certain bullet weights

A couple of guys over on the Ruger Forum got their 10mms back from David a few months ago. They put up some pics...........
