There is a guy on another forum who says he has 3000 lbs of linotype in ingot form, 1.00 a pound plus shipping. I already have 200 lbs I may never use as I shoot BP mostly but was thinking of stocking up anyway. Seems like a decent price. Don't see this stuff much anymore.

Linotype makes some fine bullets...

For perspective, I stopped by the local Les Schwab tire store and wheel weights were $18/bucket or ~$0.30/lb.

+1 on this. I'd take 50-60 lbs off his hands at that price. Lessee...at 3 parts #2 and 1 part LT that will make 200-240 lbs of alloy and at 35-40 bullets to the pound that's....

Considering that I shoot mostly straight #2, or PB, another 50 lbs added to what I've already got squirreled away should hold me for, at least, five years.

Hell, Midway is selling bullet alloy for $3 a pound. Sure lino is worth a buck a pound. I've got 500 lbs. waiting for heat. CB.

I talked to this guy today on the phone. He has more than 3000 lbs of pure lead, wheelweights and linotype. The linotype is going for 1.00/lb, the other for less, probably .50/lb, he said. He will ship in a USPS Flat Rate box as soon as he gets some. He is out of town right now, he is in Texas visiting/working but he lives in Louisiana. I had his phone number and when he gets home he is going to e-mail me his address to send Money Orders to. Stay tuned.

I just came back from our nationals in Winchester Va..A long time vendor was selling dead soft PB for 1.47 a lb in 100 lb lots.Talked to a scraper in Wayne Mich couple weeks ago.He said he would sell lead for around .75 a lb.
Wife bitched about my 3200 lb seting outside.I told her she can make a bunch with it at my estate sale :]

I like that. Say, "Honey, when I die, that ugly pile of scrap is the fur coat you always wanted".

LOVE IT !

I have only been casting a couple of years but have managed to accumulate about 1500 pounds of linotype here in southern California as local printshops have gone digital.
Amazingly 700 pounds of it was free ! :) :)

I was cruising around on ebay a few weeks ago late at night, and was amazed to find someone listing 30# of linotype for a buy-it-now price of $19.

I couldn't believe someone hadn't jumped on it. Then I got to wondered what was wrong with it....but then remembered that last time I took over a minute to question my good fortune, someone proceeded to buy the item and close the auction. So I pressed the "I'll Take It" button, and sent him an email asking if he might have any more lying about that he wishes to sell. Seems he had 400 pounds of the stuff that he would sell me at the same price and ship it out 40# at a time in flat rate boxes. I bought it all....and considered myself very lucky.

Most everything else I have seen anywhere was of the $1 and up variety per pound.

Just starting this cating game. I have begun gathering materials. I have a source of lino at $1/lb. Just got 100lbs. How much should I try to get? I only plan to cast for 348Win. Getting set up for retirement free time ( 5-7years hence) I have no idea the order of magnitude of raw materials one should get. The rapid change in the value of raw materials in our current world is my motivation to try to get ahead of the curve. Thanks. (I'm looking for a guesstimate, for a guy maybe casting 1000 , 250gr bullets a year... how much" metal" per 1000 in raw materials. Thanks again.

I guess Im pretty lucky then, I have a Brother in Law who's family has a large scrap yard and I can get all the wheel weights I need, when I need them.
So far I have 1157 1 lb Lee ingots under my bench in the shop.:-D I sell on Ebay to gather spare cash for project guns now and then.

There are 7000 grains in a pound, so each pound of lino will make 28 boolets; 1000 will use up about 36 lb of yer stash.

I'm paying right at $1 a pound shipping included. Still this isn't all that bad a price. I'd be interested in 500 plus pounds if you wouldn't mind sending me contact information for this fellow.

I just picked up 30 pounds on ebay for 41.95 including shipping. It's one of those buy it now deals. Seemed decent since it included shipping.
