hi-tek and gas checks

i want to shoot 9 mm 44mag and 30 cal rifles with gas check boolits(i already have molds and check makers) My search is for long term storage and performance. I seek j-word consistency and long term storage. My question is can and will the two work together up to 2000 fps and most likely 1300 to 1850 fps WITH air cooled clip on wheel weights sweetened with 2% linotype sized .002 over bore size? in handguns AND rifles. My plan was to coat install checks and size. I do not want to TOOL up on this project as money is tight if it will not work. we shoot 105, 120 and 140 grain 380, 9mm and 357/38 sized@ .359 44mag pistol and rifle 310 and 265 grain sized@.4315 and various 30 cal rifles 155, 170, 185, 200 and 250 grain sized @.311 and .314 and was considering using it on full bore conicals in 50, 54 and 58 frontstuffers eliminating bore butter........ Ideas?/ Thoughts? Or am I barking up the wrong tree here

wellI can tell you that you do not need gas checks. I am shooting the copper red with no fowling. I might add that bullet lubrication may help with the holy grail. I am using Tek Shield Elite.

We shoot coated, unchecked 9mm, 357Mag 44 Mag in handguns and rifles to 1800FPS with no issues at all.
I coat, 50,58 balls and minnies pure lead for club members that shoot those horrible black powder things.

Why coat the 50,58 round balls? I would think they still need a slightly lubed patch? But the minnies has me thinking :)

The gas check will give a better seal on the base of the bullet.

With a lot of testing I have found the most accurate cast lead bullet is either powder coated or coated with HT and with a cola can gas check.

With out the gas check at pistol velocities there is no leading with powder coating or HT.

The gas check on a plan base bullets just gives a better seal and the bore is cleaned each time a gas checked bullet goes down the barrel.

The 380 is usually just coated with the HT gold, the 45 ACP does much better with the cola can gas check with either of the coatings.

Try some both ways and see which one works best for you conditions.

My findings have been basically the same as Bstone5. I powder coat rather than HT because with powder coat I only have to apply and bake once. I have no doubt HT works just as well. I don't need to gas check, but I do see a little improvement in accuracy.

I don't think the 30 cal will work with the alloy you are using. Lead an is trying pure Lino in 06. His testing indicates you have to use AC alloy BHN to make it work. Pinker loads would probably work. My tests with full loads were a waste of time.

I managed to get 3,465fps in my Contender 223 rifle with a 45gr Lyman RN, GCd, and 3 coats of Red Copper HT. Accuracy was not as good as jacketed at 100yards, but still good enough for hunting. In my Savage 30-06 I got hunting accuracy at just under 2,500 fps with the Lyman 314299, 200grs, GCd, 2 coats of RC HT. Both boolits were straight linotype heat treated to 35 BHN that softened to 32 BHN during coating.

I'm feeling the recoil from the Savage so am going to work with the 223 Rem and try and improve the accuracy some.
