Them wild turkeys are pretty good eatin in their own right.

I am not sure about turkeys and canteloupes, but coyotes are sure hard on watermelons.

Your not joking coyotes are real bad on melons. I live in the area known as the watermelon capital of the world and the farmers are always having to kill the coyotes in their melon fields.

Most people plant gardens to produce food.
If the food the garden produces is turkey thank God and harvest some.

I've harvested 2 turkeys out of my backyard "garden" before. We named one "Thanksgiving Dinner" and the other "Christmas Dinner". Best garden harvest I've ever had. :-)

I have never seen a turkey capable of carrying something the size of a baseball in its mouth.

It's just a little early to be harvesting turkeys in Texas. In the garden or not.

CA F&G did some research in the vineyards with trail cams, seems the vineyard owners were blaming turkeys for eating their grapes.Turns out fox's were the culprits.

Naw, that's what freezers are for!

I have an agreement with the turkeys. They don't eat my garden, and I don't eat them. Until turkey season, that is.

I have agarden every year and have turkeys going right past it almost every day. They have never bothered it. Now coons possums and moles that's another story.

Yotes are bad news on the watermelons strawberries and tomatoes here in central fl. I bust em every chance I get either shotgun or trap.

But the game warden doesn't see it that way. And he can check your freezer! If you can prove to him (before hand) that they are damaging your crops he may OK you shooting them, but you have to turn them over to him. And you have to prove "substantial" damage. Don't know if a garden would qualify.

Had this whole conversation with a game warden a few years ago. Did not get much sympathy and was not allowed to shoot the turkeys out of season. But a 12ga. fired into the air will keep them gone for a week or so.

Coons probably, I just lost three bushels of wine grapes to a family of coons. (The tracks gave them away)
