View Full Version : How fast is too slow for a ss tumbler?

I've got my small ss tumbler and decided I needed a much larger setup.

I just completed my new tumbler, after several changes in plan, at least the new tumbler cradle.

I built the entire setup around a 1/2hp motor that I've had for a long time. I've used it on my old 3 gallon bucket tumbler and never thought to check the rpm.

I just put everything together, direct drive with this motor at 1:1 on the tumbler drum. The RPM=12-13.

I don't feel that it's turning fast enough, but it may be, I'm still relatively new to the ss tumbling.

I don't have a faster motor, and the way that I built it, I can't add a pulley system to speed it up. I'd have to redesign the entire thing to add pulley's to it.

This what your looking for?

#TT140HS This is the High Speed heavy-duty version of the Model B Thumler's Tumbler, using the 1/30 horsepower 3000rpm motor to clean your brass fast when using stainless steel! Do not confuse this high speed Model B Heavy Duty with the Model B tumbler using the slower and smaller motor. This is a heavy duty, professional quality tumbler, which features larger, more powerful continuous, fan cooled motor with overload protection. Steel hexagon barrel with removable rubber lining for long, efficient and quiet operation. 15 lb. capacity. 5 year guarantee on barrel and liner. International model is available in 220v/ 240v. The 220v model is just the motor, the plug is NOT international and you will need to wire a new plug. For International orders select 220v model and add to cart.

Notes: The motor turns at 3000 RPM, turning the barrel at 40 RPM

Have you tried it? In a big drum that might be plenty of action.

I think it would work, just take longer.

I have one I built that has uses 100# chlorine buckets (over 12 gal) and it is 40 rpm. It also has fairly aggressive agitators in the inner bucket.

Jim, do you have any problem with leakage on the lid when you are running and did you just screw your post inside the bucket?
Thanks; Sprink

If you look at the top photo you can see the bucket sitting on the bench has screws through the side holding the 1/2x2 strips.

That bucket nests inside the other one connected to the drive. Note the cut outs for the handle gussets.

sometimes it will drip if you don't get the lid tight enough.
