I have a Lyman 4 cavity 429421, and it's a good one!
Drops boolits from coww @ .4315", and they fall from the mould of their own free will. Only a slight tap of the hinge pin on the handles every so often to get a stray to drop.
Less than .001 run out on roundness in each cavity. I own several Lyman moulds and don't seem to have the problems others find with them. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Sized to .431, and lubed with BAC
This batch will be mild target loads for my 29-5, 10 grains of Unique.

This is a Lyman Mould. Not sure of the year it was made. Bought it off a member here a few years ago.
It has the square lube groove. So no, it's not a new one.

I see you are still shooting my favorite load for the 44mag. I just loaded 300 rounds with 10 grains Unique, my 629 shoots it real accurately. I to have been casting the same Lyman boolit since the late 70's. I like to shoot falling steel targets with the 44mag.

Both my smith 29 and my Blackhawk love that load!!!

Same here, maybe I'm just lucky also. I pretty much stay out of the Lyman mold discussions because it's just not been my experience. There are enough people reporting under size cavities that it seems there must be something to it but . . .

Perhaps as Larry is so fond of saying, add 2% Sn. Something I've done for a lot more years than this forum has been around and I don't have a lot of various problems talked about here.

That is indeed the old "classic" version !
My "old" Lyman 429421 4 cav from 1971 has a round grease groove as does my 358429 from the same time period. They started making the square groove sometime after that.

It has been some years since I bought a new Lyman mold, but I have several score of the older ones. I have no quarrel with Lyman molds, none at all. The mold that is the subject of this thread acts and performs just as I would expect a vintage Lyman mold to act and perform.

I have an older 429-421 (early 70s maybe?) that has the round grease groove. It shoots very well with 2400 and Unique.

I have an old Ideal 4 cav 429244 that is also a joy to use. I'd like to find a good running 421 like yours. My latest new Lyman is a 452374 which is a good one and I'm so emboldened by this success that am seriously considering a new 452460.

GLL,

Any chance you could post pictures of the old 4 Cavity 42921 mould that you referred to your post above, would be interested in seeing the markings on the blocks, and the cavities.

Thanks, and best regards,

BTW. IMHO this is what a revolver Boolit should look like!
So classic!

I am waiting on a 4 cavity 1970's version I am buying from a member here. Not sure what line groove it'll have.

I have two four cavity lyman's for that boolit, also two four cavity with the round grease groove. Both performed quite well in my 29 with 2400 and Unique. I have over 100 Lyman four cavity molds and only had one I considered poor.
