Picking up my new SR1911 tomorrow so will be looking for cast boolit loads. Would you share your experiences with this noob? I have been reloading 38 and 44 for a while, first time with 1911.

I have the same gun and it loves any brass with bulls eye under a 200 gr. SWC from MP Moulds. Also fond of W-231 and power pistol, but bulls eye was the cat's meow! Also like the MP mold 45 boolit with the huge round hollow point in the end.

Thanks for the comments. I do like the H&G 503 in 44, so will likely try the H&G34 with Bullseye.

Well since nobody has mentioned. As your loading for an autoloader, the "plunk test" is almost a necessity. Regardless of load and bullet. Also, not ALL 1911's will agree with the 200gr SWC, some will choke.

Personally, my best results have been with my recent purchase mihec clone of the rcbs cowboy bullet. Drops 230grs, over 5.1grs bullseye, 2" at 25 yds. Also the cleanest burning load I've tried.

I load the 200gr Lee SWC, non TL lubed with 45/45/10 for about 5 1911's in the family. All of them run perfectly with it. I usually load with Unique but sometimes Clays, Clays is certainly cleaner and produces less smoke for me.

My latest favorite is the 45-225E from Accurate seated so the shoulder is flush with the case mouth over 5.0 grains of AA #2. I shoot this out of my Colt XSE Rail Gun 1911. Makes nice clean holes and POI is correct for non-elevation-adjustable sights.

I love Lee 200grn SWC loaded with 5.0gr Red Dot. Yes it is very dirty but it shoots good in my 45.

I have a SR1911 and I load 200 gr lswc (bought online) over mixed brass, federal or CCI'S LPP and 4.2 - 4.6 gr of WST powder. Crimp to 0.470-0.471" with OAL of 1.24". It's only ever jammed with these when the mags were gummed up from bullet lube. With clean mags, its 100%.

I shot about 350 rounds fmj through it when new and since then about 2500 lswc loaded this way. I absolutely love the gun.

My SR1911 likes a 200 grain cast semi wadcutter sitting on top of 4.2 grains of Bullseye and a standard large pistol primer. I've used semi wadcutters from GLC Bullets in Springfield, MO and those I've cast using my RCBS 45-201-SWC mould. Both shoot very well. Great pistol!

Hold yer horses a bit.. Load up and crimp a .452" dummy and see if it will chamber fully. The "plunk" test. If it don't, then you will have a couple of choices to make, like using .451" boolits or using a different boolit design. If it seats and chambers a .452" 200gr lswc then you are all good to go.

I have a Kahr .45 that will not chamber a .452" boolit for love or money, it's just match grade tight in the chamber/barrel dimensions and I have to use .451" boolits with it BUT it is surprisingly accurate for a 3.5" barrel.

230gr plated rnhp over 5.0gr W231 works very well for me.

I like the Lee 452-230-TC. My mold is for the standard lube groove and I tumble lube with straight Johnson paste wax. So far my favorite loads is 4.5 grains of HP-38 and an O.A.L of 1.170".

Make sure you make a dummy round to check the throat depth. My SR1911's (2) have a VERY short distance before the rifling starts.
The 'plunk' test will save you some blown primers !

4.5 grains of 700X under a Lyman 452460 sized to 452 is what I use.
