Okay so here's the deal. I have some 357mag loaded with .359 diameter boolits for a pistol I no longer have.
My new pistol which is a Blackhawk needs a .358 diameter boolit. Would it be safe to shoot the .359 in this gun or should I pull them down. The barrel slugs .357 and the throats slug at .358.

Thanks for any advice.

********The barrel slugs .357 and the throats slug at .358.***********
Your .359 slug will be sized down to .358 from the .358 throats and that will still give you .001 over bore size. If the barrel leads form to small a bullet
( it may not ) then you can open the throats .001 As long as the rounds will chamber without any resistance.

Size of the cast bullet is safe and not the real question. Is the load safe for the new revolver is the question. Whatisthe load?

Would be safe... Because it is a heavy duty BlackHawk from the older days? Assuming here.... The load is using slow powders, or loaded medium with fast powders. ... felix

.359 in .358 throats is PERFECTLY SAFE as far as boolit diameter goes.

Whether the amount of powder is safe is not something that I can comment
on.

New model BH. The load is Lyman 170 SWC over 14.5 grains of H110 and CCI 550.
Sorry I forgot to include that pertinent information. ;-)
These do drop in cylinder with no hesitation.

The black hawk is a reasonably safe pistol as to it's heft and strength.
If it were me and I was SURE my loads were not over book max, and they chamber like you say they do--I would shoot them. Lets see what the big guns have to say.

Don't change a thing and let'm rip.

Just fine, I have run out past 16 gr with H110, not a book max, even then.

Yeah!

What they said!

Ditto!

I expect you will not notice any difference in performance between the .358 and .359 sizing.

Lots around here will tell you that if it chambers you are good. I shoot 125gr Lee Boolits in my Security Six as cast, this is around .360-.361. They chamber just fine in this pistol and they shoot very well. I size them to .358 for use in 9mm as I haven't found a 9mm yet that will let them chamber if left unsized.

I've seen it on here that your barrel is the best sizing die, if it fits it ships ;)

If all is what you say it is & the chambers/throats are good , I bet they`ll give a good starting point !!

Update
I finally made it to the range to shoot the rounds in question and they worked great! Thanks for all of the input.
