What calibre and gun?

I have an article on shooting 300 gr. bullets in .44 mag. from many years ago and Blue Dot was one of the best powders tested for accuracy in handgun ~ Ruger Redhawk IIRC.

I have tried it in my 1894 Marlin .44 mag. and it did well but in the longer barrel I find IMR4227 or H110 works better. Nothing wrong with Blue Dot though, just not quite as much velocity. If you aren't pushing for max. velocity then no matter.

"If you aren't pushing for max. velocity"

Exactly. I only "max" out the .308.
Blue Dot and Unique are two all purpose powders. I like both for shotguns and handguns and .30 caliber rifles with cast. Add in some Varget and there is nothing I can't do with the guns I have. Three powders for .357/.38, 9mm, .308, and 12 gauge. You should get good results.

Really like Blue Dot 8.5 gr under 358477 in my Ruger SS. Blue Dot 6.0 gr. is my go to load under 120-125 gr boolits in 9MM.

I like it in .357, .45

Have found it to be very dirty in .38. Leaves unburnt powder all over the bench/gun.

I like it a lot for cast in the Krag and the 7.5 Swiss, loads from 1400 to and over 2000 fps. But not for cat-sneeze loads. It need more pressure than that.

It's close to 2400, but gives me better velocity variance and better accuracy.

It's way too slow for .38 Special, but works a treat in higher-pressure handgun cartridges. One of my "stock up until you have a lifetime supply" powders.

Ive had good results with .357 158gn jfp but blue dot seems to burn cleaner with a stiffish load.......10.5gn in my marlin 1894c
Yet to load 200gn, cheers mm
