First time I've seen anything like this. 0.5/3/.1 Sn/Sb/Cu. Roto pure/Antimony lead/ shot & CuS. Has pits & almost water wave looking on top. Poured a couple in a cold mould, cast OK, toughness is good. Doesn't have the same grainy surface like my regular alloy & actually shrunk away from the sides of the pot.. Any hints?

I sure hope somebody recognizes this. I had a very weird smelt, similar but more of the 'oatmeal' look, and tested positive for zinc with muriatic acid. It was a pot of range lead, doesn't make sense.

Got muriatic? What was this stuff originally?

Your metal looks un fluxed and still dirty. Flux and clean it and see if the watery looking stuff goes away. Don't know what it is but if it cast well, fergeddaboudit.

It cast fine and It's rotometal alloys. Skimmed & fluxed, did find some junk to skim this morning, not much. just really unusual looking. Dark spots are voids, not dirt. Casted (love that word from the ATT commercial) ~ 500 168 gr GC 308s for the AR. Now just coat and load em.

My pot looks like that pretty regularly when it's nearly full. Not so much when it's closer to empty.

Actually that is a very familiar sight for me.
One more 1/2 percent of tin would stop that if it bothers you.
Its just the antimony crystalizing. Antimony expands as it hardens then shrinks some when it cools.

What was the melt temp? Graphite on the shot?
