I ordered a hammer spring kit from Brownells awhile back and just got around to trying them out. Came with a 20,19,and 18 lb springs. Put the 18# in first, too light!! Primer hardly dented, a few went off but most didnt. Came home and put the 19# in. Will try tomorrow. Anybody else ever try this?

Are you using CCI primers? While they are otherwise of good quality, they are harder to fire off due to a cup that is harder than the other brands I have tried. My Sig P Series guns all work just fine with 17# springs, but I load only Winchester or occasionally Federal primers. Federal primers are the softest I've tried and are the only ones that will shoot reliably with some finely tuned DA S&W's.

If you are having bad luck with an 18# spring and are not using CCI primers, you might check to make sure that your primers are fully seated. I like mine about 0.003" below flush.

+1 for Federal primers
