No sense having them if I don't show them once in awhile...
The top one is an original factory engraved Remington-Beals .36.
The bottom one is a Colt 1861 .36 Navy Signature Series Custer Commemorative.
I've fired the bottom one but not the top one.

The Remington is a work of art. The time, patience and talent to produce that type of work is just amazing! Is the Colt also all hand engraved?

Yeah, the Colt was hand engraved.
The Remington-Beals functions perfectly but I can't bring myself to shoot it.

Yes they are pretty,
I subscribe to the feather theory..
If I had them, and you had a feather, we would both be tickled..

I was offered XXX dollars for the bottom one when it was unfired. I put 18 rounds through it and the offer dropped by $200+. Collectors like them unfired. I like to shoot them.
Like I said, I just can't bring myself to shoot the Remington-Beals. I shoot my other originals.

Remember you can always clean it after you shoot it.

I shoot and clean several other old guns. The problem is that I had it appraised by James Julia in Maine, and it's worth a lot more than what I paid for it. With my luck...
Well you enjoy them as you see fit.I can't say I could not fire them, but I,m not faced with that.

The way I see it, that Remington-Beals is kinda rare, especially engraved. I'm just the caretaker. If I ever damaged it in any way, I'd kick myself (and probably break a hip).
Here's two more shooters. The top one is a Spiller & Burr .36 repro that has fooled a lot of people into thinking it's an original -someone spent some time making it authentic.
The bottom one is an original Whitney .36 that was sold to me as a "pre-Italian repro". Well, Palmetto made a Whitney repro and before that, only Whitney. It has military markings and the Whitney Eagle under the trigger guard.
