Hi all :)

This is my first post to your excellent site. I've been reading it for a while and it prompted me to start casting competition ammo for "Gallery Rifle" shooting here in Scotland.
My first soft cast bullets are performing brilliantly on paper with much tighter grouping than I was getting from the many different commercially bought hard cast bullets I've previously been buying.

However, one small problem.... I'm using the Lyman #421 top punch in my Lubrisizer for the Lee 452-252-SWC as per the table I found on your sister site www.castpics.net (http://www.castpics.net/subsite/TopPunches/Lee.html) which recommends both #421 and #424. This #421 top punch is deforming and damaging the bullet tip as I hope you can see in the picture below:
http://www.shootforum.com/kevpics/damaged%20heads%20from%20top%20punch.jpg

Can anyone advise if the #424 is a better fit or an alternative?

Perhaps the recommendation table on www.castpics.net (http://www.castpics.net/subsite/TopPunches/Lee.html) should be updated too?

Cheers,
Kev.

Title should have been;
Another example of republicans attempts at immigration reform. With no other text with picture.

Oh, welcome to our site.
Yea, the #424 would do a better job.

Tom at Accurate Molds sells aluminum flat top punches of 3 different sizes. I use them for all my flat nosed bullets. Not sure about shipping but you could email him. Zero deformation and they allow the boolit to enter the lubrisizer straight.

Welcome aboard.

My ancestor came from Scotland in 1791.
The family tradition is that he left Scotland about three steps in front of the Sheriff.

Beer Hunter,
Fill the cavity with epoxy or hot melt glue, making it flat.

I'm sure many of our forebears made the same decision. Some of mine were from Ireland (McDonald)...

Wecome Bear, I am having the same problem. I got the Lee mold 452-252 SWC-2 and need to get a Lyman top punch. One place tells me to use #460 and www.castpics.net shows 421 or 424. At $10 each plus shipping, I don't want to get the wrong one. If someone is using this mold, let me know what Lyman top punch you use so not to smash the bullet!!

Guys,

Thanks so much for all the advice. I filled the punch flat with epoxy and the problem is solved:

Welcome to the forum, Beer Hunter. I am in the States now for about 35 years, but I'm originally from Bishop Briggs, just outside Glascow...... I think a lot of the good men on the forum are Scots in lineage.

You won't find a better forrrrum (ha ha) on the planet!!
