Well, I hit up about 8 tire or repair shops on a little stretch I was traveling through. Shot down 6 times, but two places said yes, yielding about a full 5 gallon bucket plus about 2 more gallons. They loved it when I was back 5 minutes later with donuts!
I think that's one of the most enjoyable parts of the hobby. I find if I just converse with people and explain what I'm doing, they get interested. I think sometimes an initial "no" turns into a yes just because I engage them, always politely. And when you then give them donuts or a six pack, that's when they say "stop back in a month or two."
