Does anybody know if the 444 Schafer magnum is dimensionally the same as the 445 super mag? Apparently they were originally mad by running a 444 marlin into a 44 magnum die and turning down the head to match the dimensions of a 44 mag. Gsdelong

be aware that there were twodifferent cartridges designed by Schafer. the 1st was as you describe, a .444marlin, base turned to be dimensionaly same as .44 mag/special so all 3 could be fired in the same T/C barrel. the 2nd cartridge was the .444 SchaferUltraMag, which entailed the base turning plus trimming/mabe even neck reaming to fit in converted DanWesson SuperMagS and was interchangable with the .445SuperMag

Thanks Shorty500M

.444 Schafer Magnum. This cartridge was simply a .444 Marlin turned on a lathe to have the same outside dimensions as the .44 Magnum.

This came from Taffin's site.

So based on this is the length the only difference. And if so as it was advertised as being able to shoot 44 special, 44 magnum and 444 Schafer Magnum. Can 445 Brass be used?
