Hey everyone,

Looking for help from someone that has experience or wisdom in this area. I have a quad rail accessory hand guard on my AR platform. I have one huge annoyance that no matter how much I try to ignore it, it bothers me even more. So now I have set out to look for a fix. My annoyance is the gap between the quad rail and the rail on barrel. I know that there are quad rails out there that make that gap flush, but they are hard to find and the few I found are 300$ plus. Hoping someone has some helpful information on how or where to find one for a decent price.

Thanks.

What length gas tube are you running? What is your barrel length? Do you want to do co witness with irons? Scope, red dot or what? Ar's are the worlds greatest tinker toys, but we need specs and your design purpose for the weapon.

If not prepared or able to either cut the delta ring or remove the barrel, the gap is there to stay. The Troy Alpha series can be had around $150 and use the standard barrel nut. I have 2 and couldn't be happier.

It can be an irritation, is this a clamp on or freefloat?

Some rails have a option of a screw in cap or cover on the muzzle side.

I removed the stock D-ring when I placed my quad rail on. Here is the exact hand guard I have. http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Model-Carbine-Length-System/dp/B002JARTGW

Easy fix! It will cost you a little bit but get a cheap barrel wrench off of ebay, or amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005KNPH1Y/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, a upper block set http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006GGC8QQ/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1a low profile .750 gas block http://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Alloy-Barrel-Profile-Micro/dp/B0057SJIKI/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=3OJMNXMONM1UE&coliid=I15UV9G9MY140F, mid length quad rail or rifle length rail (this guy has sold me over a dozen and they work great for the price http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omegamfg-Free-Float-Quad-Rail-9-2-Inch-Mid-Length-New-Design-/271237245525?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f26ffea55, and a rail height front sight of your choice. You have a free float hand-guard already, and your gas block is a set screw type so removing those parts will be easy. You will need to drive out the pin on the gas tube to put it in the new block if you do not buy a new gas tube. It would take me about a half hour at the most to do. Tools needed are a vice, hex wrenches, and a pin set to get out the pin on the gas block. Some blue lock-tight on your set screws, and a torch, lighter, or heat gun just to heat up the old lock-tight to get it to loosen. You would need all of that whatever you decided to do if you want to replace that hand-guard. It should cost 100 to 125$ if you already have the basic tools with the stuff I listed. If you need some help figuring out the steps send me a PM and I can walk you through it.

You have a UTG model 4/15 free float carbine quad rail installed right now so you wont be able to get rid of that gap unless you went with a longer rail, and mounted your front sight on that. This is the rail I posted on one of my rifles.

Edit: Sounds like you already have the tools you just need to decide to get a low pro gas block, and a longer rail. I would spring for the new gas tube to save the headache of getting the old one off the block. I don't have any carbine length rails on my rifles anymore. They are all mid length to keep the same sight radius or rifle length. Under 100$ to switch it out, and you can sell the old one in the swapin and selling section soon to recoup some of your money. I built this one for my wife, but she is not impressed. She like the handguns, and doesn't like the rifles so much. Up for grabs if anyone wants it!

Your awesome, I have most of that stuff already, so I just need to purchase the rail. I am excited to get this started!

Thanks

You will need the new gas block with the rail. The one you have right now will not fit under the new one. These things are tinker toys once you have the tools. Good luck!

Xaces hit it on the head. When you get your low profile block, get an extra gas tube pin. Those little suckers are easy to lose, and its no fun ordering a 50 cent part and waiting a week to shoot your new build. Don't ask how I know. :bigsmyl2:

I ended up ordering the rail you posted. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omegamfg-Free-Float-Quad-Rail-9-2-Inch-Mid-Length-New-Design-/271237245525?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f26ffea55 will I need a new gas tube as well for this new hand guard?

Thanks

I would go ahead and get the gas-block, and gas tube to make your life easy. They are cheap. Here is a trick for the roll pin...squeeze it at the end a little bit so it is easier to put it in the hole on the gas-block. This one comes with a roll pin, and the gas-block should come with one as well. You have to replace your gas block with this style. Look into getting a magpul Mbus front sight. Believe it or not they are tougher than some of the high end steel sights out there.

I have to warn you on the seller however. Botach Tactical has a reputation in the AR community for selling things they do not have. Ebay will cover your butt on this, but do not buy directly from them. Personally, I have never had a problem with them, and I got my product on time. YMMV.
