44 SPL / 44Mag

Hoping to pick up a Ruger Black hawk 44 Mag 5.5 barrel this week, I have been looking at the Lyman 329421for both, Mainly a plinking round but I may use for close range white tail. Good choice or do you think one of the other bullets would be a better suited.

Push that 429421 out the barrel around 1200fps & it's a sure-fire 100yd deer killer if you can hit what you aim at.:bigsmyl2:

What is "both?" Use mag brass for all loads and be happy.
The 429421 was my favorite in the original design but today there are better boolits.

I still like the 429421 that is pretty much my go to mold for the 44 guns.

Does clay birds out to 120 Yards for me, but that's as far as my range will go.
I need to find a longer place to shoot. Man don't sell the 429421 short,

Well consider that Lyman drops them at .429, maybe .430 depending on your alloy - it's a mite loose for cast.
Yup I have one and it's not my first choice in boolit.

I have 2 Recent Lyman 429421s. They cast undersize for my guns and tapered. I lapped one to cast larger and took out the taper. The other I left as is. I'm sure it would shoot as cast, without sizing, just not as accurate.

44man is right about Mag Brass. With work I have gotten 44 Specials to shoot very well but if you're shooting a 44 Mag, Mag Brass will shoot better.

Miha's prices have been fairly consistent. If you nose around the group buy forums you will see that he has held price over the past several years. Visit the vendor sponsor section and you can estimate this mold's price based on his inventory on hand.

Lastly, while I have never backed out, many do along the waiting period for various reasons before he sends you an invoice. I'd imagine he'd lose quite a number of commitments if he instituted a sharp price increase along the time period one of these group buys take. Still, you can subscribe to the thread and wait until price is added if that makes one more comfortable.

Thanks for the comments on the Lyman 429421 mold, I picked up the Ruger yesterday, Very nice SS Black hawk used but in new condition. Looks like I will be getting on Mid-south back order list again. The shop I bought the Ruger at had a new set of RCBS Dies and one RCBS #18 shell holder. I checked MS the mold is in stock, The H&I die, top punch, and brass are not. I like this bullet I shoot the RCBS 38-150 in 38 SPL and the Lyman 358156 GC in 357 as well as the Lyman 452424 in 45LC. All have done very well for me. My eyes will no longer permit me to make the 100-yard shots with a handgun. Many years ago I did take 3 deer with my 357. They were taken in the 40-yard range. I think the 44 was more a mid-life crisis buy than a real need. I have owned revolvers most of my life, this is my first 44.

You will love the .44 like no other.
Lyman molds get iffy because they sharpen cherries and molds get smaller during production runs. RCBS does the same. Those tools are expensive.

I agree with using mag brass for your shooting. 6.5grn reddot lite loads, 9 grains unique for a 'kickin around load', and 20.5 grns of 2400 for hunting loads all in mag brass is what I use in my 5.5"sbh. 429421 @ .430
