While awaiting my C. Sharps in 38-55 I decided to go mould hunting. I found an old Lyman style(357166) on ebay that was brand new and got it today. If it shoots as good as it looks I'm in for a treat. I don't know how well it will do in the Legendary Frontiersmen but I'll try it first in that one until the Sharps gets here. I doubt I can get more than 35-40 gr of Swiss 1.5 in the case as it has plenty of reach down inside the case. OAL is 1.180" and from the bottom of the drive band to the bottom of base is about .755"

The remake of the original 375166 shoots just fine out to 500 meters with 42gr KIK FFg and a 1/8" felt wad

The diameter using 1:20 as it falls from the mould is .379"

That would take a healthy dose of compression if you had to seat it to the bottom of the drive band...getting close to .500 inch.

thank you for that ,,

Colt - the rounds are seated to the middle of the 1st GG band below the driving band. Heavy compression?
The :awesome: accuracy doesn't say there's too much compression with KIK FFg, CTG and Swiss. Less than MOA at 100 & 200yds with good groups out to 500 meters

I have to seat to the bottom of the drive band in the Winchester but when the Bridgeport gets here, that will be a horse of a different color. I can only hope I can achieve half of that size group.:)

Have you tried Lyman's 378674?

That mold is a copy of the 45 cal Postel scaled down. I shoot that boolit in my C-Sharps 75 and with 47gr of 2F Swiss it shoots very well out to 600yds which is as far as I have pushed it. My barrel is a 15 twist Badger and I believe C-Sharps is using GM barrels now so not sure of the twist.

I never can get the twist ratio and proper bullet weight straight. I want to think a 1:14-1:16 should do well with a 300-325 gr bullet...probably the 1:18 would as well. I suppose it all depends on the bullet. I'm looking at the Hoch 377310 and giving it consideration. From all I've been told C. Sharps is using Green Mt barrels.

When I ordered the Hepburn last november I was told they were running out the badger stock ( Badger had been bought out and was no longer making special blanks contours) and they were using Green Mountain barrels. I have a green Mountain barrel in 38 cal 1-14 twist to finish at 34" long Tapered octogan profile to go on a rolling block action here shortly. I have a 48-55 mcphearson reamer from Manson reamers in michigan for tis project.

Have you tried Lyman's 378674? Yes and not a bad bullet from an Ideal mold. Colt, in addition to the 375166, the better 38's are Doc Hudson designs, the same for his 32 caliber bullets.

Lyman totally screwed up selling all the other good BP single shot bullet cherries and schematics - just keeping the popular smokeless revenue producing ones

Looks like it would shoot good in a 375 Winchester as well.

Well, no mould should stand along so, I bought another. I love the deep grease grooves from this Hoch 377310.
