I got one of these a while back and MAN do i love it! the bergarra barrel is amazingly accurate and the trigger pull is dead on at 2.5 lbs. looking forward to doing some deer hunting in the upcoming months with it. Been thinking about paper patching some pure lead and seeing how it does. any thoughts fellers?

I'm interested as well, I purchased one a few months back and haven't had a chance to do any load development yet, but I've got about 850 460gr hard casts poured and around 100 softies :-D

I know this tread is pretty darn old but fast forward to today so that others can read also........my cousin just bought the CVA Scout in 45-70 and it is quite the shooter, keeping most groups under a 1-1/2" at 100 yards with Jacketed bullets. The trigger is absolutely amazing, not requiring trigger work or a $100 plus custom target trigger. It is in itself a nice light trigger that breaks cleanly. My cousin is not a cast bullet shooter but then, his rifle would not except my .460" ,350 gr. Ranch Dogs or my 405 gr. cast bullets because of the somewhat short throat, but maybe a different profile bullet would work.He has settled on the Hornady 350 gr. FN for his hunting bullet. Now I don't believe that the Scout has the Bergarra barrel because it is not advertised on the website, however the Apex model does. If my cousin's scout is a Begarra bbl,it is not stamped so on his bbl.But who cares when it shoots like it does? I was impressed with the feel of the rifle as well.Myself,I have a Marlin Guide Gun but after shooting his,I think I want one of these myself.

As of yesterday I'm now the owner of three of them: 35 Rem, 300 Blackout and now a 44 magnum. I hope the 44 is anywhere near as good as the other two. These things are a steal for the price IMO, especially when you consider they come with a really nice mount and rings already installed.

Here's a little tip for lefties: according to the instruction manual the hammer spur is left-hand threaded. Guess how I know? Hint: my new 44 no longer has a hammer spur.

Yes,the scope mount is a nice solid set up and if you don't like the heigth with the one that comes with the rifle,CVA gives you the option to send it to them for a replacement for the higher mount. My cousin opted for the higher mount so it took about a week to get a replacement mount.

I have a CVA Hunter, newly reamed .358 Win. Out of the box, it had a better trigger than a $125 trigger job on a Handi rifle. Throw in the free scope mount/rings and hammer spur and you have a smoking hot deal. No more Handis for me. I sure wish CVA would make a Hunter/Scout rifle in .357 Mag. I keep thinking about the Scout pistol in .357 Mag.

I love my little 35 Rem CVA Hunter. It came with the low mount and a 3-9x40mm scope fits just right.

Zeroing in the scope at 25 and 50 yards put 3 shots in one hole. Working up cast loads now.

Fins,Feather,Furs was where my cousin bought his. You might have to special order from your local gun shop. I have been waiting for the FFF around here to get more in but who knows when that'll be.

I got one off gunbroker.com for about $290 in 45-70. I wanted it to shoot cast bullets without a gas check. Couldn't get better than 3" groups consistently at 100 yards and shook my Nikon scope loose twice. I was using trap-door loads. You may have better luck with a 300g gas checked bullet. I sold the gun.

How strong is the Scout action? How hot could you load the 45-70 for it?

Content removed by poster, I just realized mine is a hunter, not a Scout

It frosts me that they won't make a rifle in .357 Mag., as they make a Scout pistol in .357Mag with a 14" bbl. A Scout in .357 Mag would be great for reaming to MAX.

As light as the gun is I think it is likely you will run out of shooter before the action strength is an issue.

Probably so. A friend of mine has one in 7-08 and really likes it. It looks too little for the 45-70.

Not really to little. We have CVA 50 cal muzzys and the recoil from them is brutal in comparison. After shooting my cousins 45-70 CVA Scout,I'll take it any day over the muzzy. One thing with heavy recoiling rifles is,you just can't put a cheapy scope on them and exspect a good outcome.

I have had three of the Scout 2 pistols, 300BO-44Mag-50calMZL. Sold the 300BO to a member here. Love all three of them!
Just put in an order for the 44Mag rifle and 357Mag pistol. Both back ordered.

Chambered in 357 Maggie, it would be the cats meow.

Don't need it, but I would buy one.

Unchambered in 22,25,30, 35 could be a gunsmiths bread and butter.
