I was looking at Rocky Raabs website yesterday and saw his idea of a self-emptying primer catch tray, so I shamelessly stole it. With that in mind, at work today I was looking at some small plastic bottles and it hit me on how to make a more elegant solution to the idea. I found some 5/8" OD tubing to match the bottles opening, and it was off to the races. It literally took me 15 minutes to make start to finish, and having just deprimed 200 30-30 cases, the mod works flawlessly. I pass the idea on for others to improve on...

cool, but that would be waaay too much trouble to sort out the live primers from that many empties. I inevitably drop one while priming cases....

I don't prime on the press, instead I use an RCBS hand prime tool. But way back when I did, I never lost a primer on the press - maybe you need to tweek the adjustment on your setup.

I did basically the same thing, and probably got the idea from the same article; except I ran the lower end of the hose through a pop bottle cap. It takes a long, long time to fill a 20 oz. bottle with fired primers.

I just leave the catcher off and put a box on the floor.

I have been channeling ideas for my Redding Boss I just bought used.I saw they have a tube that attaches to the bottom if I buy the replacement ram. I was think of heating till I can change the shape to fit on the side. When I get er done,I'll post! :)'s

I have the later model Rockchucker. I'm amazed a fine company like RCBS would redesign the primer catcher and retain all the worst features but they did. Tradition? I couldn't figure a way to modify the new black plastic catcher so I bent a copper tube to match the collection point and they all go into a bottle on the shelf below. The brass tube inserted in the ram directs all the primers out the rear slot.

Baja and Mal Paso, both of you have developed very clever solutions to the primer collection issue! I also find it interesting that Lyman, Hornaday, RCBS still use the snap in/on primer collection trays when so many better methods have been invented?
