How long has it been since you've seen a "Milk Carton" full of 22s? My buddy was cleaning out his deceased Dad's workshop when he found these. I'm proud to say that he thought enough of me to bring me 50 rounds for my shooting pleasure.

BTW, anyone know the years Remington packaged their 22s this way?

I once bought a new 22LR and decided to see what it liked. I bought boxes or bricks of several brands, and among them there are still several of those milk partly full cartons from a couple mfgs.

I would hazard a guess of back in the `80`s.Robert

No, but the plant is going to double production, starting next year at this time with a new plant right next door to their one in far east Little Rock. ... felix

I hope they at least make a half hearted attempt at some quality control. The Remington 22s I've shot in recent years have left something to be desired. Out of a mag of 10 I expect to have at least one failure to fire. I've pulled several to find no priming material & no powder.

ETA: I've just heard from my buddy & found out that his Dad passed in June of 1979 so this carton was purchased before then.

I 'll bet there won't be a misfire in that whole box- or 10 just like it. Those "golden bullets" are as reliable as anything I've ever seen. You might have to clean your gun occasionally!

Man, that picture brought back memories. I was born in 1977 and dad let me shoot his 10/22 when I was 4. I remember getting one of those cartons in my Christmas sock when I was about 5 years old, so that would be about 1982.

I've purchased the same carton within the last 10 years at Meijers here in Indiana.

Hated those "milk carton" 22's. Not only was the bullet was covered with lube, but the whole cartridge was too. It was a sticky mess.

I've just checked the rounds I have left & from what I can see they're clean as a pin. The carton was stored on a shelf in a metal storage building with no heat or air in the hot Alabama sun. BTW, it's some of the best shooting 22s I've shot lately.

There's an article from the 1992 Gun Digest where they tested old ammo. All shot well. Some actually shot better then current production of the same brand! Have fun shooting it up!

Several years ago I bought 2 bricks of Super X 22s from a neighbor that was moving. If I remember right he said it was bought in '68 and then stored in a 50cal ammo can. That stuff is the most consistent shooting 22s I think I have ever shot.
