An in the process of closing on a stainless bisley in .45 colt. Does anyone have a suggestion for an inexpensive mould (Lee?) for this cartridge. I also have lyman and H&G 200-215 grn swc moulds.

Any suggestions on moulds and loads would be appreciated. I am not looking to burn blind and deafen at this point just see what the gun will do.

Thanks

For standard pressure in my bisley it seems to shoot that lee 250 RNFP pretty well. My load is sized .451", javelena lube, 9.0 gr of ww231, federal large pistol primer, and a winchester or starline case.

The alloy is straight ww water dropped. I can shoot around 3" @ 25 yards with it offhand standing on a good day. I'm sure someone good can do better.

The Lee C452-300-RF is a very accurate boolit, and is designed to wear a gas check. Be aware that is actually casts around 320 grains in WW alloy.

The RCBS 45-270-SAA is a popular 45 mold. I have one which drops bullets weighing about 285grs. with wheelweight alloy.

I have a six cavity Lee 250 RNFP with double lube grooves I'll sale. It's like new.

My Blackhawk sees lots of 454424 250 SWC on top of 7.5 gr Bullseye, gets about 950 fps out of my 7.5" barrel. 454190 RNFP 250 10 gr Herco also right on 1000 fps. I've also run the Lee 300 WFP GC with 23 gr H4227 for 1250 fps.

Be sure to measure the throats of the cylinder. Most Rugers are a little small. It seems .451 to .452 is pretty standard for groove diameters but also for throats. .435 throats will shoot better.

I also use the Belt Mountain base pin after the original began slipping under heavy recoil.

I hope you soon smell the smoke and feel the thunder.

Here's my answer to your question.
Buy the 2 cavity LEE 300 gr rnfpgc.
Load it over 6.5 grains of Red Dot for 850fps and GREAT accuracy. (I shoot prairie dogs with this load.)
Load it over 18.5 grains of 2400 to kill anything that walks.

Thumbcocker --- Welcome to the world of 45Long Colt --- I like the Lee 252 swc with 8.3 to 9 grs. of herco. Also load 200gr with 6.5 bull --- Both loads are sized .452 lubed with Felix lube. --- 5grs. of bull pushing that 200swc is a light load. -- Enjoy your new toy Mag_01
