I was wondering about this over the weekend, about what kind of ballistics you could get from a .454 squeezed down enough to shoot357 bullets. I'm certain that it is been tried and most likely written about, but Google is not much help. Some of you have probably seen or maybe played around with such a critter. I'm thinking it would be a very interesting cartridge for deer in a lever action. Can someone point me in the right direction to an article or a write up about this? Or if you have done it, what were your experiences?

Search Gary Reeder's website, if anyone has tried it, he was likely the one that did.

Its called a 360 Earsplittenloudenboomertopstrapcutter when used in a revolver. You can make it by necking down 429 GNR cases if the parent 454's are scarce.;)

Do you live in Indiana, and are looking for a cartridge that is under the max length allowed for rifles?

The 357/454 is not a Gary Reeder cartridge. Reeder chambers the 356 and 358 GNR, which are the 41 Rem Mag and 445 SuperMag cases necked down, respectively.

Take care, Tom

it's the 38 casull.
one of the guy's involved with the development of the round [with Dick] was at my house last night.
I gave him a flat rate box of 9mm brass to load up the leftover 124gr bullets from the initial load development.
we were discussing the round a little yesterday then this thread pops up, maybe I need to have one built.

it's the 38 casull.
Is based on a 45acp case necked down to 35cal, not a 454 case necked down to 35cal. I read alot about guys using the 38 casull in the 1911 format, but that was over 5+ years ago.

No, I don't live in Indiana. I was just kind of wondering and got curious. The 358 dmm is what I was talking about, I guess. Just can't find out anything about it. Thanks for the replies

Check "Cartrages(SP) of the World" JD Jones did some cases based on the 454. I'm not at home so I can't check but Woodswalker comes to mind.
