even with all the problems that we had with Lee getting a good mold the shooting results are outstanding with this boolit from my 357max G2 Contender.I know this boolit was designed by Ranch Dog for use from a Marlin lever gun but from the spec sheet i got from him i knew this boolit would work good out of my SSK barrel.

wheel weight lead was used for the casting of all my boolits and the boolits were lubed with one heavy coat of the group buy alox,i am also using the group buy Gater checks on these boolits.

right from the start these boolits shot very good from my gun.i have worked some with the loads and i have now settled on my load for this gun.
here's a picture of some groups i shot at 100 and 200 yards

and here is a picture of my two three shot groups that i shot this morning.it didn't take alot of load work to get to this point with this boolit.i did my final zero this morning so i am now ready for the Michigan deer season

these are a very easy boolit to mold, size, lube and load and you dont need a special lube sizer either
thanks Ranch Dog for another great boolit:drinks:

See, I told you LLA and bullets designed for this would not work!! (quote from the Village Idiot).

Guess that should shut down all of the naysayers, huh?!

Nice shooting, Jeff.

Nice shooting Jeff. Wait until you see how well the TLC359-190-RF shoots!

when you decide to make a run on that mold i will be in for one of the six bangers and maybe two but for now these are shooting awsome:mrgreen:

here i was thinking your 44cal Ranch Dog boolits shot good too out of my 445 supermag but these are the best cast boolits i ever shot!!:drinks:

one thing i did to one of my molds yesterday afternoon was to take a scribe and clean out and deepen the vents on both halfs of the mold.i am now getting a good total boolit fillout lube groves and all.i just got done casting about four hundred boolits and ended up with only three cull boolits:bigsmyl2:

thanks again Ranch Dog for letting me run a group buy on another one of your great designs

I took my Marlin 1894 in .357 mag out to the range this weekend, with these Ranch Dog boolits loaded to an OAL of 1.605" in .38 special cases on top of 12 grains of 2400. Wow! did they shoot great! Best groups that I have ever gotten in that gun, four shots in one inch at 50 yards

here's the group, the rifle, and the ammo:

I also launched that load into a water-filled gallon milk jug to test it's power. The jug entirely blew up, it was shredded from top to bottom.

That's quite a compliment Jeff... Thanks :drinks:

It's really nice in light of the day I've spent working on the TLC379-235-RF. This is my second generation mold for the 375 and 38-55 Win. Just a long day working through loads. I'd hoped to finish up with a load for tomorrows opening day on deer. I ran out of bullets :-? Oh will, got to cast some more...

I pulled my 336-44 out and going to use it instead with the TLC432-300-RF over 21.0-grains of H110 and at 1700 FPS it is a pretty good thumper.

Deadguy, that is a very nice looking 94!

Thank you! It's all factory stock, just as Marlin made it, with the exception of the leather sling, some wear, and the Williams peep sight.

is there anyone else shooting these boolits yet?i sure would like to hear from a few more of you that bought one of these molds..

down the road some im going to get one of Ranch Dogs 30cal molds so i can play around with cast boolits from my 30-30ai Contender barrel.i was going to just shoot 125 grain Nosler BTs from that barrel but i might as well go for it with cast boolits too,ive got enough wheel weight lead for years of shooting

What is the availability of this mould? I'm interested in one if they're available, and I'd be willing to do some testing if it's in that stage.

Thanks.

I've been nessing with this bullet for about 7-8 months now . And have only shot it in a Marlin 336ER (356 WIN) .
But the darn thing is a tack driver [smilie=1:

Now I don't shoot balls to the wall loads and I cast WW alloy . But for me that is all good :drinks:

I have an old 336SC in 35 REM that I think I may try them in sometime after december .

They did shoot good out of my 336ER but not my 336D and 336SC. I heard from Lee today and the TLC359-190-RFs are being cut.

I'm still messing with the TLC379-235-RF, and need some feed back from you and the others about my suggestions in the report I sent you. Mainly addressing the lube grooves. I've now collected data with H4198 and H4227 (scary), and tomorrow I'm going to shoot H322. I am out hunting with a max load of H4198 but the accuracy isn't quite where I want it.

In the 375 WIN in my Marlin I found the lube groove closest to the nose to work best . When I tried increasing the OAL the groups opened with the same loads .

As far as the newer 250 PB design just for use in the 38-55 I am not sure that is necessary . In the past my 38-55's Have done very well with the Lyman and RCBS gas checked designs.

I will however at some point try both the 210 and 235 grainers in the 336CB in 38-55 . But it may be a couple months !!!!

Actually you just gave me a thought , perhaps the 38-55 with that 235 grainer would make a pretty decent slihouette load !!!!! Might have to mess with that after hunting season !!!!

I'm interested in this boolit too. Alongside the 44's, 38/55 and 375 Winchester are my favorite calibers. What's your target diameter for these Michael? Are you going to post your H322 results?

+1 for a 225 grainer for .356 and .358 Win, and .35 Rem Marlins.

jeff223:

What other cast lead bullet weights have you tried in your 357 Maximum barrel. I have had great success with the RCBS 200 w/gc & 220 LBT w/gc. My 357 Max barrel was a rechamber job with a long throat for these large rifle bullets. My powder of choice is also Win. 296.

RCBS 200s were the biggest ive ever shot from the 357max.they were good shooters but they have a smaller meplat.ive shot alot of different boolits in the 180gr range and some in the 160grain range.Ranch Dogs are the best shooting boolits ive tried, ive sold or traded all my other molds

I shoot 214 gr 357 CB in my 357 Max, and it does very well. I am looking for a different shape to see if that helps my distance shooting.

I use 296 or H110 in most of my Max loads and they do justice to the name Max.

Everywhere I see folks talking about how good their 357 Max is and I'm wondering why Marlin hasn't made a levergun in this caliber?:drinks:

Just food for thought.

FTR: I'm still waiting for the 360-190-RF to become available through Ranch Dog.

The Max is about 2 inches long which puts it out of reach of the 1894 action, and they already have the .35 Remington in the 336 action. In theory the .35 Rem could be loaded hotter to far exceed the .357 Max, but in deference to some weak older guns in that caliber it is left in its anemic state. Marlin Marketing is missing the boat in not bringing out a new, more capable .35 caliber cartridge wearing their name; Something like the .375 Winchester necked down to .357, or the .444 Marlin necked down to .357, aka .358 JDJ.

If you use the Max in a rifle would u have the same cutting action that the Ruger pistols seem to have problems with? I know my Contender in 357 Max is showing some barrel erosion from all of the hot loads that I have put throught it.

miestro_jerry;

As to more erosion, yes you would. The more intense the cartridge , the more erosion.

One of the beauties in my opinion of owning a 308 Win. or 30 -06 and shooting milder cast loads in them. You avoid a lot of the very thing that you are inquiring about.
