The thought struck me that an adjustable Lee Shot Dipper might make a good Pyrodex RS dipper for a rifle. So I took a can of powder with a known VMD and weighed *1-each charges* with the 1 1/4 oz dipper setting, 1 1/8 oz, 1 oz, and 7/8 oz. I multiplied those powder weights with the powder's VMD and got the volume in cc's for each dipper setting. I then divided that cc result by the VMD of BP FF, .068, and got the weight of FF black powder each dipper setting would throw. They were:

1 1/4 oz shot dipper = 90 gr
1 1/8 oz shot dipper = 76 gr
1 oz shot dipper =68 gr
7/8 oz shot dipper = 60 gr

Someone double check me, please. Note that I dipped one-only charge with each dipper setting. One dandy thing about this adjustable dipper is the shot weights are built-in on the side of the dipper.

That sounds about the same as I get with my old antique shot dipper. It is calibrated for both ounces of shot and drams of powder. Mighty handy devices, especially if you shoot shotguns.

Junior,

I don't know about the rest but by my calculations that I have always used, my 90 gr powder measure threw 1 1/4 oz of shot.

Best wishes,

Joe

Junior,

Best wishes,

JoeJoe, that matches perfectly with my shot measure. The 1 1/4 oz setting throws 90 grs of FF powder. Thank you!

Not a big deal my friend. I calculated it out a year or so ago when I got my smooth bore, as I wanted to know what volume on my measure would hold 1 1/4 oz of shot for small game hunting.

Best wishes,

Joe
