View Full Version : Having trouble find 7.7 Jap ammo

I just bought a 7.7 Jap which I intend to use for cast boolits. Every source I go to for ammo or cases is sold out.

Does anyone have a few cases they could spare so I can at least test fire this rifle.

I will gladly pay a reasonable price.

Pm me if you can help.

Thanks,

Centex Bill

Are you a reloader and do yo have a 7.7 die? If so, brass can be produced from 30 06.

I have been on the hunt for 7.7 brass several times myself and it always seems to be sold out and the only ammo I ever saw for it was north of $40 per box (Norma I think).

I have taken to case forming for the 7.7 Jap from 30-06. It is really pretty simple and I bought a mini cut-off saw that make it down right cheating easy.

Send me a PM if you want any more info on it or if you want some formed brass to try.

From Cartridge Conversions by George Nonte Jr. "Full length size in 7.7x58mm Arisaka die; Trim to 2.27"; Fire form. Head will expand .003" to .006" and fill chamber just ahead of web.; Use .310 bullets" Page 195.

This is the bottom line. Now, you can make this more difficult than it really is or just follow Nonte's advice. As for trimming brass to 7.7 Jap case lenght after forming, 3006 brass ,you can use a case trimmer (wow..all that cutting , why would you ?), you can buy a trim die and hack saw excess neck off (works, tedious and slow but works) or just buy a copper tube cutter from Harbor Freight for 4 bucks and cut neck off in seconds effortlessly. Don't let me spoil all the misery and fore play others have talked to, go ahead and do it but for the brighter of you, spend 4 bucks and laugh at the others (

Form 7.7x58 from 8x57.
No trimming at all.

I think I may have some 7.7 brass here. Will have to dig and see what I have. I also have 8x57. Not huge quantities but I know I have some.

I have bought a few bags of the PRIVI brass from Mr Nambu on Gun Broker. I believe it was about 28 bucks for 50.
