After a month today recuperating from my last outing at the range with the 45-90 me and my neighbor went back and I shot for the first time my Browning BPCR in 45-70. I was sure to take along, just in case, a LimbSaver and Lead Sled for insurance. It was not needed but both work as advertised and worked well. I took about 35 rounds from the 480 gr Saeco 480 gr bullet behind 64 and 66 gr of Swiss 1.5 and Goex 2F with 64 gr also in that same bullet. Also, I had loaded some 510 gr bullets and could tell a difference in recoil naturally but not bad. John Boy would have been proud.

The Browning shot well...I didn't. I did have a couple groups with the 64 and 66gr of Swiss 1.5 with the Saeco bullet that did pretty well considering being not use to the rifle and not ahving shot a 45-70 is something over 30 years. I'll refine my technique and loads next time out. These are my two best groups at 100 yards. I hope to do better next time. I'm not sore, hurt or have any bruises thanks to some for their advice last time.:)

Greetings
When I got my first 86 45-70 it was an all smile day also. Plus you actually have round holes on the paper in respectable clusters.
Browning makes nice weapons. Had an uncle who only purchased Browning and I do know he spoke very highly of every one. My only one is a lever 22 and it is a fine shooting little carbine.
So do enjoy that rifle. I would think in a couple weeks those clusters will be peppered in the black.

Today I wasn't too concerned about bullet placement but more how the different loads/bullet combinations would group. However, after studying the targets later I made adjustment, particularly windage, and think I'll be real close next time. It's a fine rifle and the trigger is just superb for a factory rifle...maybe 3-3 1/2 lbs.
