I was having problems with my Rock Island Armory 1911 leading with lubed lead boolits. Mostly because the bore was rougher than a corn cob. I will say that it shot J-word bullets just fine and never did FTF or FTE with them. But I needed a better barrel. So I fit a Ed Brown SS drop in barrel to my RIA 1911 Tac II FS. This was a pretty easy fit job. I only needed to take .001 off the end of the hood. Wow what a nice snug crisp lockup this barrel has. After fitting I looked at the finish in the bore and it is about the nicest finish I have ever seen in a bore. No chatter marks in the rifling at all. I did notice that the rifling has the opposite twist to it though. But I don't think the boolits will care one bit. I can not wait to take it to the range and test it out with my 200 gr TC boolits and Tac1 lube. I bet I do not get one streak of lead in it.

Found some .45 auto left-handed jacketed bullets in the berm last week.

Yes I sent the gun back to them and they fitted it with a new one. It was better and shot J work bullets just fine. But it was not as nice of a finish in the barrel for my liking. I am a bit anal about the finish in bores. If they are smooth they are so much nicer to clean and problems with leading just don't seem to happen.

Got out today to try out the new barrel with my new 200gr TC boolits from a new Accurate mold. All I have to say is wow what a combo. I held a 2 inch group at 25yrds. The factory barrel would have never done that.

Hmm. Most 1911's are left hand twist. My Colts and Bar Sto's all are, as are a number of other makers. JMB's originals were left hand twist. Which were Colts, essentially. If you're going to make a case for a particular direction, it's left hand predominating.
