I have broke down and taken the plunge into modern muzzle loaders. Just for the heck of it. I have several nice traditional guns but wanted to try something with a 209 primer. Anyway, the deal was good, it's unfired and on the way soon. What I want to shoot in it is conicals and loose powder, both real gunpowder and subs. Maybe a Lee REAL boolit, I have that mold somewhere. Any advice? Thoughts? My first concern is a load that will go bang first try from a cold clean barrel, like for a truck gun.

My 1 in 28 - 24 inch barrel NEF Huntsman 50 likes the Hornady great plains conical , the 410 and 385gr hollow base under 90 gr 777

and it works well on deer , it should be leaving the barrel around 14-1500fps

I have also shot it with 90 gr 3fg and think it is just about the same

great on deer

An over powder wad seems to help allot on the REALs in those tight twist barrels.
