When I bought these 160gr boolits to use in my AK, I figured I would barely get to 400 yards since they would be going so slow. But for some reason the POI was a foot lower than jacketed bullets at 300 yards.

So today I tried a 400 yard shot to see where the POI was, and to my delight, it hit higher than anticipated.

Look at that arch! I thought I'd be able to capture the whole trajectory, but wasn't prepared for that much of an arch.

These boolits cycle flawlessly, I've found no issues in need of correction. I am so pleased that I decided to cast my own boolits!

what load?

Lee CTL312-160-2R tumble lubed, gas check applied, pan lubed; 20.6gr of IMR 4198, CCI 200 primer, Winchester case. Only 1800fps but precise.

Great video, neat to see the boolit in flight.
Given that my AK shoots about 6" at 100 yds with jbullets, I am amazed at the
accuracy you are obtaining at 400 yds.

Thank you!
This rifle has been a shooter from day one, even with TulAmmo it shoots well.

I've been tinkering with the same boolit in my ak, but am using Imr 3031. I've been able to get about 1.5 to 2 moa at 100 yards with a fence as a rest. Loading 23 to 23.5 grains. Went as High as 24 but was to compressed. My oal into the last wrinkle runs about 2.180 if I remember . In oreder to squeeze in 24 I had to go to 2.20 which is as long as the mag will feed. Any vareiance long binds up the mag as the arc starts. What is your oal?
Mine Ak has always shot better than expected as well, even with the Wolf or tulammo. Its shoots the soupcan tight! I went with the heavier bullet for weight, but the soupcan over 25 of IMR 3031 put out several 1.5 groups at one hundred. Shoots softer than the factory stuff and the primers look good. slugged at exactly .311 and my soupcan drops at .312. The 160 drops between .313 and .314 so I have been checking in the .314. No lead in the bbl or gas system, but I have been soaking the whole rod in CLP and wiping down and cleaning the port after every use.

My COL is 2.17", I crimp it inside the crimping cannelure. I've had no problems whatsoever with feeding or ejecting.
Sounds like your rifle is "one of the exceptions" like mine, good for us! ;)

my lee 309-170 drops at .312. I am thinking about trying that in my ak with the checks squeezed on with a .314. It only weighs 6 grains more than the 160 ( actual weight of 167 checked and lubed) . My 309-170 flat point weighs about 174 checked and lubed. That would make a great pig slayer load!

I've had no luck cycling a round nose in my WASR, a flat nose could be problematic?

My AK cycled the soupcan perfectly; I don"t know if the 170 will cycle or not, but I .uh, "aim" to find out! ;)
