What can be used to cut to size and used as insoles? I'm too cheap to spend 20 or 30 bucks on insoles, and the "cheap" ones don't last at all. I need something for cushion in some boots. Just seems there should be something that could be cut to fit.

Indoor/outdoor carpet-available in several colors, the kind without the attached backing. That stuff wears like iron-even buffs rust off heavily rusted iron.

I use 1/4" cork cut from 12" squares from the craft store. It works for boots I don't walk long distance in (Harley riding). I probably won't do it again, not that comfy, but in their defense, they are holding up terribly well.

I like that yoga mat method in the linked DIY. I will try that!

I have an old army sleeping pad, the closed foam type issued back in the '80's. I didn't use it for insoles, but for a heel pad when I had a bone spur, but it would seem that it would work for insoles as well.
