Just started to try 5744 in the 03A3, 4 groove.
Using my NOE 312299 sized .311 which is perfect for this rifle, weighs 210 with check and lube.
Everything I have read says 5744 is a great powder for Cast and that about 25.0gr. is the ticket for 30-06.
So I loaded 24.5, 25.0 and 25.5
Groups were shot @ 100yds. with 9X scope

24.5 was the best, first shot hit 2" high, next 1" lower, next 3 same hole.
25.0 Shots strung left giving a sideways groups of about 4"
25.5 Shots where a stringing left shotgun patterned 4+"
No Leading.

Kind'a Bummed, was hoping this would be a bit better.
Should I keep going up to see if I hit an accuracy node ?
I did notice that Lymans say 28.0 is potentially most accurate with a 210gr. of a different design.
Hate to back it down, Looking to be in the 1800fps range for hunting Pig.

What's the hardness of your bullet? You may need to experiment with that. With a wheelweight #314299 sized to .310", I got best accuracy with 21 grs. 5744 in an '03-A3. Muzzle velocity = 1660, below what you're looking for. "Accuracy nodes" aside, if you want more velocity and better accuracy than what you're getting, you might try the considerably slower H4895. I think the Lyman "potentially most accurate" load is based on something like std. deviation; often doesn't mean much as far as actual shooting accuracy goes. Good luck with you're load development.

No idea of the hardness, COWW, touch of Tin, water dropped.
Will try to find some H4895, what about Varget ?

Varget's not far from H4895 in burn rate; may be worth a try as well. I assume the WW after CO means wheelweights? You might also try your bullets air cooled & no water dropping. If your bullet fit is good and your lube holds up, you can shoot a pretty soft bullet at 1800 fps with good accuracy and no leading. I wouldn't use a filler of any kind - they're not needed with such loads and may hurt accuracy.

For hunting the hard bullet and high velocity may not be a help. Bullet may punch right through with minimal expansion for no gain in stopping power. Just my two cents.
