I've been lurking around for a few weeks and decided to join up. Picked these two 357 Maxi's up locally and really like'm Gonna pull the 3x9 off the shortie and put a 2x7 on it. Hopefully I'll be putting a youth stock on the shortie as well for my daughter to use in the future. The 3x9 will go to my Whelen. Loading 180gr XTP's now and will try some cast soon. Glad to be here and looking forward to learning from y'all.

Whelen shoots just under 1" now, but took a little work on the forearm and trigger to get it there. It didn't start showing any promise until it had ~80 rounds through it. Still working on loads for the 357 Maxi's, and I haven't found any 357 Mag brass locally to load yet.

I just realized your just across the river from me... the Mississippi that is. Are there anymore of those 357 maxies hanging around locally for sale?

Sounds like you've got the whelen going. Keep it up!!

The 180 xtp is a great choice for deer. My teenage son took a nice eight pointer last year with our 357 max handi trapper with the short barrel. Load was just under 20 gr 4227 w fed 205m primer. We will also be working up a load with 1680 and the 170 gr hornady ssp bullet. From what I have heard, that load is hard to beat. Sorry I don't have a cast boolit hunting load for you. Been shooting 158 gr lswc in mag cases for fun.

35 shooter, where are you located at, I'm in Denham. The Whelen is the "Hammer of Thor" on whitetails, I haven't had one take a step yet after being shot. I'll keep an eye out for you a Maxi, you wantin' a complete rifle or barrel only?

About 30 miles south of hattiesburg. If a bbl it would have to be for an encore as i don't have the h&r.
However i would love to have a complete rifle in the h&r in either the whelen or 357 max in a wood stock if i can find one in good shape. Might even consider an apex, but i don't have any experience with them but i do know the h&r's will shoot. My brother has an h&r in the whelen and it shoots right with my encore, so we're both happy but i'm jealous of the price he can get bbls. for that thing. So yea if you see one pm me by all means and THANKS.

#1 on the thor thing but that little maxi oughtta be perfect for hunting these parts.
Good luck with yours!!:bigsmyl2:

You are really going to enjoy those 357 Maxi's. I have a t/c carbine in maxi and it is unbelievable versatile and fun to shoot. I am shooting a Lee 150 RNPB at 1200 fps, a Lee 158 SWC-GC at 1900 fps, and a Lyman 170 SWC-PB Keith style at 1400 all with the same point of aim at 100 yards with iron sights (all 3" or less groups). Try the 150 gr for your daughter since it barely recoils. Hope yours shoots as well.
