I have been searching both here and on the internet for pictures of a sling for my Pedersoli Gibbs. I have seen some videos but they are not an up close type as the camera person is standing back aways. From one picture I have seen the sling wraps around the barrel just in front of the forend and through the sling swivel. If any of the long range shooters here would have a picture and possibly dimensions I would really appreciate it if it could be posted as I would like to make one. Thank you.

I e-mailed my buddy and asked him to e-mail me some pics. It is pretty simple though, just wrap the leather strap around barrel twice up front And secure with some lacing. A hook that will fit through the stud on the front of the trigger guard and take the width of the strap on the other side, preferably with a swivel. I think I may have seen one on the Buffalo Arms site. I have the leather strap and hook for mine but haven't put it together yet.

I saw one on the Buffalo Arms website and while it looks like a belt I guess that could be all that is needed?

I did find a post on how to use the sling I see on the M1 Garands at the range now and then and how the sling tightens around the bicep area, etc. If that is what I'd need then I can use one of those as a guide?

Just depends on whether you are going to shoot international rules. The picture Squeeze put up is the correct set up. The rules don't allow anything that wasn't period correct. You have to us a sling out to 600yd, beyond that you can use a wrist rest.

Well, since I won't be competing, at least not planning to at this time, I wanted to have the sling more as an item to try and see how it works. I am planing to make one to give me something to do in the near future so now I know, thanks for the help.

I was thinking of making one that slipped over the butt stock & with the strap tying around the barrel like in the pic.

The sling attached as shown works quite well and is very stable.

Great pictures, thank you. A question about the bottom picture? Does that fabric looking section wrap around the bicep area or is it two pieces so the bicep and arm go through it? As large as the front section is and the way it is wrapped I would say the pressure on the barrel is very small even when the sling is pulled tight?

It is a single piece that wraps around the bicep. The sling around the barrel doesn't seem to affect anything. He has it set back as far as possible so that he can use it for a hand stop.
He is making another sling because I think that rubberized section is illegal for international competition. They didn't have that in the late 1800s.

Here's more detail from my picture above lifted from another site. The sling is simply looped over the barrel and a leather lace used to old it in place. A loop at the other end can be used to hold a hook which will fit on the sling attachment supplied on the Gibbs.

The above is an original Whitworth match rifle. No artificial support (including slings) was permitted at the time these rifles were originally used so they don't come with sling fittings. A clamp has been fitted to the trigger guard to allow sling attachment.

The back position gained popularity giving a more stable position than shooting prone (unsupported).
