It seems many conicals for cap n ball guns have small lube grooves such as the Lee conicals.

But then I see some have very large/deep lube grooves such as Big Lube's bullet for cap n ball guns.

Why do they have much larger lube grooves if the smaller lube grooves seem adequate? Is it necessary for more lube if shooting from a rifle barrel since they are much longer?

I don't really know for sure but I have never filled the grooves and not had a problem either. Maybe something to do with the fouling that builds up.

In percussion revolvers the boolits really don't need grooves any more than a round ball does.
