If you have not tried this yet, Google up "beer can chicken." It is mighty fine.

Home Depot has the stainless steel beer can holders that are made just for this. They work great and are not expensive !

Tip for ya. Lift the skin near the neck opening and place a pat of butter under it between the skin and the breast. It will melt into the bird while it's cooking.

Tip, wrap the wing tips with tin foil to keep them from charring. I also cook on the side of the grill that is not burning (gas grill).

Yes to all of the above. Been cooking beer can chicken for years. Well worth the effort. :bigsmyl2:

It's even better when placed in a smoker. I inject mine w/ a beer and butter marinade and smoke over applewood. It doesn't get burnt in the smoker and the beer won't boil off.

I had my first Beer Butt chicken last weekend. It was cooked in a smoker.
I`m not sure of the rub/marinade but man was it good....dale

Tips;
1. use an Alum. pie plate for grills, it will protect the wings & legs
2. Sam's sells an Italian seasoning mix, mix some with EVOO or butter making a paste, stick between breasts and skin, slit the skin on the thighs & legs and fill with the paste
3. Pour 1/4 of beer in the pie pan, and put openings in the can at 90* spacings
4. put 1/2 of a bulb of garlic in the neck opening
5. pack bacon in between shin and meat instead of the Italian paste mix

Cornish game hens go great with a pineapple juice can.[6 oz or so] Use half for a marinade and half for a dipping sauce.

Yep been there doing yard-birds like that for at least 40 years.We add seasoning in the brew too.Just let it go flat first. When they came out with the can holders I bought a pair. Really makes the whole process of getting it to stay standing easier.I have a smoker from a Huston Texas company that looks like a giant stainless steel cooking pot for the NAVY beans. About 12 an a half gallon size.About 4 hours with the lower heat lets the brew go deeper in the meat. :)'s
