Its just a double sided Lee 450-200.I load on the bench so length wont be a problem.
I'm just tired of having to fight getting them loaded straight.I dont know why Lee didnt put more of a taper or something to make loading easier.I want to have a custom mold made for something self centering, its not rocket science. Thanks in advance.

P.S. this was a quicky photoshop so you get the idea, not a final look.

The Lyman 450229 has a smaller base band (for alignment and ease of starting)and hollow base. Some guys are using bevel base 185-200gr, and the bevel is allowing for easier starting. Of course, if you use a roundball, there is no problem at all.

I emailed Tom early this morning and he makes an 180 grain 45 for cap & ball.I should of done more research before buying the Lee .450-200.Especially since I already cast FORTY NINE POUNDS of them.I'm buying a .451 sizer maybe that will help some. Some have flashing on the base when the mold got really hot.Not to many business people you can email at 4am and get a response in minutes.

I have 2 of the Lee 450-200 R, the double cavity was bought in 1985, and the single cavity hollow point version was made in the 1970s. I bought it in a BP Mountain Man shop and the shop owner said it had been on the shelf since 1975. It was marked $11.98 so thats what he charged me. He said he wasn't going to charge extra for the 10 years of dust on the box :)

The double cavity drops at .452 and tapers to .450 at the base. The HP dropped at .453 and tapered to .451 at the base. I had used the HP boolits with plain based gas checks sized to .452 in my 1911. I recently hand-lapped the base to .452 and am powder coating that boolit for the 1911. The boolits from the double cavity seat very well in my brass framed CVA 1858 copy when cast from pure lead. I had a buddy who's conical mold was too large for his 1858 Remington copy. He ordered a 450-200 1R but the actually shipped the 456-220 1R for the Ruger Old Army. If your mold is throwing too large either trade it off or send it back for a replacement.

You'd run out of room in the cylinder pretty quickly with any of the
original design replicas, so the loads would be very low velocity.
May work with Old Army, not sure.
