Does anyone know a common container that fits into the stock hole in the 03-A3? This would have to pass the hole in the buttplate which is the smallest diameter, or at least it is on mine.
A film can is too big and my diabetic strip containers (waterproof) are too big. I'm asking because I need an 'A' sight blade for my bullet loads and to keep my 'C' blade for my boolit loads. This means storing the other one and a couple of pins along with a punch in the stock if possible. I figure I can make pins from brass brads if necessary. I'll be meeting with J and C Sales (John) at the Hampton Gun Show to pick up the A blade in a couple of weekends.

It has been a very long time since I felt the need to stick anything in that hole, but when I did I wrapped it in aluminum foil and twisted the ends shut. I left a long twisted tail I could grab and pull whatever it was out.

I'm looking for something that can be opened and re-opened frequently, preferably hard. I figured this had been done for years and I was just late coming to the party!
Try empty grease pot for a Garand. I think a sight blade would fit in one.

You might find a plastic container that held a carbide drill bit or a router bit.

I carry a plastic container in my pocket that originally had a headache remedy in it. They are available at the convenience stores occasionally. It might take a front sight. About 1/2 inch in diameter and 2 1/2 long. They seem to be watertight and have a good system to hold the lid in place.
How about the original oiler?1 end has a compartment that would hold the sight blade.

If I could find one that is not 80+ years old and brittle!
Dan, that's a good idea. I need to find someone that smokes. My external diameter is 3/4".

Brownells sell plastic tubes of various sizes you can cut to length. They also carry caps for the ends.

Went to the local cigar store over lunch. They only had one that was small enough. First cigar I've enjoyed in years!
GPC stil has the plastic ones available. Two parters with 1/2 for oil and 1/2 for the pull through .

If you know anyone who smokes those disposable electronic fake cigarettes, some of those come in a plastic tube with end caps.

I have a counterbalance weight in my 03A3 stock that I made from I think 1/2" electrical conduit. I cut it to length, internally threaded the ends, made a couple caps, and filled it with birdshot. It adds just the right amount of weight to the butt end to help stabilize the rifle for off hand shots.

I just use 45-70 boolits in my garand
The ace up the street had some clear plastic tubing and plastic caps in various sizes. Maybe that will work?
