Ok. After some time, Uberti finally posted the twist rate of the 30-30 roller. They say it's 1:18". Never have seen that slow a twist in a 30 cal. What can I stabilize with that? The Greenhill formula says about 115 grains...but surely it can stabilize heavier boolits, can't it? I don't think a 30-30 will drive a 150 gr faster than about 2400 fps. I'd want to shoot my 170 Ranchdog boolits and/or my TLC312-160 Lee...

Thoughts? (Rifle itself, twist rate, Uberti rollers in general...)

Are these worth $799?!?

1:18 sounds like a typo to me for the .30-30. If it is in fact an 18" twist, you could shoot said 115 grainers and have really inefficient .32-20 performance.

Are these the little copy of a #2 Remington that weighs about five pounds? Not too sure I would want to touch off anything more than a factory equivalent load in .30-30 in one of the little guys.

If it is the gun I am thinking of, I think they would be better in a pistol caliber.

I think the reality is that since it is a 30-30, it is well SAFE for 30-30 factory pressures. Uberti has made fine weapons for a LONG time.
Twist is easily verified. Search in CB for the
"how to". Then the speculation can stop, as you will know.

Until you know all talk is likely not productive.

Singleshot,
I have one of the Uberti Carbines in .30-30. The twist appears to be the standard of 1-12". I have shot every kind of cast boolit you can think of in it. The long 200+ grain boolits don't shoot very well and the recoil can be very stout. With the 311291 169gr boolit the gun shoots very well. I have some very blunt 150gr cast gc boolits that shoot into one hole at my 25yd range. I am using 20.0gr of Accurate 5744 with a small 5/8" square of polyester filler with the 150s and the velocity is in the 1800fps range with no leading.
The lighter weight 32-20 bullets work well for squirrel loads and general plinking. I have loaded down some to around 850fps using Unique.
My gun sports a custom peep sight with a pinhead front in a tube. I might hunt deer with it this fall using the 150gr RNGC load.
These guns are very strong and can handle factory loads with ease.
Hope this helps.
