I kinda like top break revolvers.Years ago I read an old gunsmith trick of tightening up a topbreak by just wacking it on the top of the work bench. Does this ring any bells with anybody? Can you tell me how to do it?

Sounds pretty far-fetched to me. If the latch or pivot are actually worn, banging it on a
bench isn't going to fix it.

a friend of mine was a wiz at the old top breakes. he would build a shadow box for it and hang it on the wall. best use i ever found for them.

I've got a half dozen of these things and they can be a bunch of fun. I have loaded a few 38 S&Ws for them - super slow. But I haven't loaded anything for a the 32s. I suppose that the idea of banging it on a bench was to peen the bars of the clasp but it sounds like a fools errand to me.

I have made an oversize pivot screw for the catch and bored the hole off center to tighten them up. Building up the frame is hit and miss as some of the frames are closer to cast iron.
