This sweet little 24" octagon barreled 32-20 Model 1892 Winchester has always been a non-trader. Perish the thought. Went to my Lyman 41 to find a pet load of 10 gr. 4759 behind a .313 PB 115 gr. Bear killer special from Bullseye inc. Lyman shows a max of 11 gr. 4759/115 gr. 3118 @ 1575, but I didn't want to take a chance of shooting through the 8 ft. thick pile of red clay I use as a backstop:razz:. So. 10 grains it was with average velocity of 1454 screaming fps. I was shooting 3 shot groups since my reloads were limited. 1 1/8" groups from a rest:oops: were the norm. 2 shots touching, or almost, then one to the right. The original sights were extremely fuzzy to my 70 year old eyes. Anyhoo, I shot a 3 shot group standing that went into 1 1/2" at said 25 yds. Shot another one after that we won't talk about. Will shoot some more next week at a full 100 yards and will report back on this 4759 load. The 32-20 is one of the neatest sweetest little cartridges I've ever reloaded for and shot. Very economical, and brass lasts a long time. The 1892 is slender with a slender stock and forearm. Hate that curved buttplate. Barrel heavy, and holds, or swings, just right. Seems like guns were that way until the late 50,s. Once had an early Remmy 740/06 that had slender wood and slender barrel. Best handling auto "06 I ever owned. Enough ranting. Mack

I admire your model 92. In 1954 my Grandfather passed away and left me his 92 win. 32-20 I was 15 years old. I shot many a groundhog walking the hedgerows of a then less populated Maryland and pa. Somewhere along 1962 Bain and Davis changed it over to 357 mag . Since then it still is one of my most used rifles with the grandkids plinking with it quite a bit . POP would be pleased tks ken

The 32 20 is a nice little cartridge. The 92 Winny is slick after they been used and broken in. I have one in 25-20 and like it a lot Both of those cartridges are easy to load for. If you are not using small pistol primers, try those as they may improve accuracy a tad, instead of the rifle primers. Enjoy that sweet ole piece. I'm 67 and understand about the sights getting fuzzy. Don't take too long to squeeze the trigger as the vision gets fuzzy when we don't get enough ozygen to the eyes from holding our breath. I sometimes have to hold the shot, look away, get several deep breaths, get back on the sights and break the shot in the first few seconds. Take care and enjoy.

THANKS for the replys gents. I'll try the pistol primers next reload session. Good Idea, Just might work. Ditto on the oxygen depletion. Our rifle team coach, in college, made us take three breaths. First two were inhale and exhale. The third was inhale and then only let half of it out. Shoot within about 10 seconds or pull the rifle down from your shoulder and start over. HA, 50 years ago, and to this day I can't break that habit. Looking away from the target for a moment is a big help too, just as you said.

Try 5.0 to 5.5 gr of Unique with that boolit and see what you get. That load works well for me in an old 1892, newer Marlin 1894, and several handguns as well. I use SPP for that load, regardless of what it gets shot in. JW

If the curved buttplate is hurting then maybe a leather buttstock cover will help. Helps round out the sharp edges a bit. I can even add some bullet loops if you want. 45.00 shipped for a plain one without loops. www.whyteleatherworks.com

I'm in JW's camp on using Unique in this venerable old cartridge. 4.5gr to 5.5gr (low end can be shot in pistol or rifle) of Unique behind a 311008 or 311316 boolit is my go to load for the 32-20. What's not to like about the accuracy, low recoil and economy of this gem?
