I got this mold primarily for my Rossi Model 92 with a 20 inch round barrel. This gun is just a whole lotta fun to shoot. Up to now, I have been shooting the 358429 and the 358477, but care is needed when cycling, owing to the sharp SWC edges. I also have a 4 inch S&W Model 28 and a 6.5 inch Ruger Blackhawk. I am hopeful I can find a load that works well in all these guns. These chambered in my Model 28 just fine.

For my first range session with this new boolit, I went to my local indoor range to generate some chrony data. For this outing, I trimmed some Blazer brass (unknown number of firings) to 1.281 +/- 0.001 inch. Powders used were Alliant 300-MP, Accurate #9, and Hodgdon H110. Primers were CCI #550. I cast the boolits with the round HP pins and they weighed in at 145 gr. They were water dropped, sized to .358, and lubed with Carnauba Red. My alloy is supposed to be 92-4-4, but I suspect more Sb is in there. I now realize that my monotype is actuall a mix of monotype and foundry type. When making the alloy, some Sb precipitated out. BHN was not measured, but my habitual alloying process produces a water dropped 22-24 BHN after aging 2 weeks.

So here's the chrony numbers as separate posts. I also like to make a histogram chart so I can visually see how closely the majority of the rounds cluster together. I use a MagnetoSpeed chrony.

Good start.......... This boolit started life in a BRP mold. I've been shooting it for several years now. I also trimmed my brass so it would function in a stainless 1894 Marlin (to lazy to cut the lifter stop back). A couple of summers ago it was shot in that rifle at the Michigan get together by several of us. The rifle wore its original open sights and still does. We shot some nice large fist sized groups at a bit over 300 yds off the bench while aiming at some leaf clusters above the target with it. It shoots quite well from Ruger Blackhawks also. Load was 14.4 gr. of 2400 with standard small pistol primers and the boolit was water dropped 50/50 WW/Pure sized 0.359".

I hope to get outside and shoot 100 to 150 yds within a few weeks. This boolit cycles beautifully in the 92. Thanks for honchoing this!

How's this boolit been shooting for you?

I've been using 8.0 grains Longshot under the plain-base HP bullet, 150 grains, out of my 20" barrel Winchester. The alloy is pretty soft, and only air cooled. Lube is Carnauba Red, sized .3585. So far accuracy is very good, and I have no leading to speak of. The solid boolit is coming out right at 158 grains. I'm loading that over 4.0 grains Red Dot for a sub-sonic plinker. LBS

I also like the 360640 in a Rossi 92 and S&W 686. At 6.3 grains of Unique muzzle velocities are at 1300 & 1070 respectively. I've shot the Rossi out to 200 yards with this load. And chronographed at that distance too. Velocity is 930 fps, and accuracy with peep sights is still 6 inches for 5 shots (when I do my part). Alloy is 50/50 ww/soft for 8.5-9 bhn. Hp'ed configuration at 150 grains.
