1895 Mauser rear sight question

I have an 1895 Chilean Mauser. The rear sight elevator just slides up and down and does not engage the detents in the ladder.Is there a fix for this?

The "teeth" on the locking button may be worn out or broken. The button has some very tiny coil spring or springs that keep tension in the locked position.
