I recently was given 300 pcs 210 gr. Truncated cone cast boolits. Anyone ever loaded these in 35 remington? If so, how did they perform?

Can you post a pic of a few? Are they gas check boolits? Do you know who casted them? Are they commercial cast?

Generally, anything with a full diameter body outside the case won't chamber in .35 Remington rifles.

The left two won't work, the right two will:

Is the 1st one a 180gr WFN? 2nd I don't know, 3rd a RCBS 35-200? I like the 4th one, what is it?
I'll have to post what I'm shooting in my 35 Remmy 336 tonight when I get home.

Left to right, LBT .358 180 WFN, LBT .358 200 LFN, RCBS 35-200-FP and the SAECO #352 (245 grain FP). The picture is from a Glen Fryxel article here:

I have a Marlin 336 made in 1951, long barrel, non-micro groove barrel. It shoots Jwords like no ones business. I, being a cast boolit nut, got me a couple of molds and went to casting. The Ideal 358 200 gr loaded and could not find a load to shoot it good enough to take it to the woods for deer hunting. I bought the RCBS 35 200 gr. last week and when I get home to get to cast with my new mold I want to see if I can it them too shoot. My Lyman 358318 250 gr. shoots bug holes in my 358 Win. in my Ruger M77 Tang Safety. Let us know what you figured out to yourr lack of accuracy. I think you should be able to find a boolit and powder charge to work as my Dad has a 45/70 Marlin he enjoys great success with very little effort.

The bullets that I have look like the third from the left in the picture. I made a dummy rd. to make sure it did chamber, and they weigh 210 gr. Im going to give it a go, any powder recommendations? I dont use unique or the "dot" powders, I have 4895, 3031, varget and LVR

If they're gas checked, it should be easy to duplicate factory velocities. 3031 is pretty much perfect for the .35 Rem. LVR should be excellent as well, but I haven't used it.

3031 is my go to powder for my 35 Remmy. When I was testing a bunch is used the RCBS 35-200-FN. LVR shot great in my rifle and the velocity was about 50fps higher than the 3031.
If you try and crimp in the groove you may run into problems depending on if the chamber throat is short or long. The throat in my rifle is on the short side so I opted to trim my brass under the minimum by about .015" (IIRC) in order to get the round to chamber AND be able to crimp in the groove. I had to go slow with this because I still wanted the boolit to engrave the rifling on the front band when the round was chambered.
35 Remmy is a great cartridge and relatively easy to load or start shooting cast boolits. A couple other good boolits for 35 Remmy and 336's are the Ranch Dog 190 and the Lyman 358315. Although the 358315 is a RN boolit so its not recommended for hunting.

The left one is a NOE clone of the 35-200-FN and the right is called a 35 THOR, its weight is 237gr lubed and checked. You can hear it smack the target at 100 yds. The meplat is about .280".

Nothing to be sorry about. Those pictures are just fine.

I'm kinda jealous, actually. Look better than most of mine....OK, damn near all of them. ;-)

That 35 THOR boolit is a real WHOPPER! Hope to POP a pig with it this fall/winter.

Same here, my friend! Got in on the GB that just closed, should be fun to flatten a piggy or two with that big flat nose.

The 35 rem has such a short throat in marlin's, and most .38 boolit's will work. hope you get it worked out.

Lefty, will that Thor boolit cycle & chamber in a 336 35 Rem?

Lefty, will that Thor boolit cycle & chamber in a 336 35 Rem?

ABSOLUTELY! Atleast it does in my rifle. It actually cycles better than the RCBS 35-200-FN. Once in a while I will have the RCBS boolit hang on me a little.
The 35 THOR is quite accurate too. The best group Ive shot with it was 1.5 MOA.
