......and what a nice job Tim has done! I sent him a ratty looking 98 action along with a Green Mountain barrel in the white, plus a Hogue stock from another rifle. I got back a shiny new rifle with a polished bolt, blued action and barrel, drilled and tapped with new scope rings. Caliber is .270 Win.
I intend to make it a "cast only" rifle; i have 3 of the only 5 moulds that Lyman lists for the .270. Of those 3 (the 280412,280473 and 280468), only the 280468 (a 114 gr. Loverin) has been known to be consistently accurate. The Ideal reloading handbook of 1951 (no.38) even states about the 280412, which is a classic bore rider design not unlike the 311291:"A standard bullet for .270 Win. Accuracy not quite equal to above bullets of Loverin design". So I've got my work cut out for me with this caliber. Any experience with cast in the .270 would be appreciated.

Thats a nice looking rifle. I have a 98/1908 Brazilian I enjoy. Thinking about putting a reciever sight on it.

looks great, and a new life for an old war horse. I have some 270 molds and a win 54 270 that keeps whispering to me...when it cools down I shall get to it!

There is a rec.sight made by Lyman the mounts onto the bolt release latch without having to drill the action.I have 3 mounted on my hunting rifles. Windage is by screw adjustment, and range is by a lever release then move by hand with mark table on the side. In the Blue Ridge of Virginia woods they work exceptionally well.
