My Stevens 44 1/2 will arrive on Friday after several months at CPA Rifles. It will now have a .30-40 Krag barrel fitted to the action which I can swap out with the factory .22 LR barrel. I'm very excited to get it back and start playing with loads!

I have never seen any of this mans work? I understand he is very good at what he does.

I've got most of the standard powders for the .308 Win - .30-06 class size of cartridges. NOE's 311299 3 cavity mold plus plenty of jacketed choices and 100 pieces of new brass. I'm excited!

You understand correctly. When I get some time I'll take some photos of my CPA 45-70 and post them

Take care, Tom

It's here!!! The brown truck showed up just after lunch after I'd finished my sermon. Great timing. I unpacked, checked everything out. What beautiful work they do over there at CPA...I'll get pics up at some point. The most astonishing thing about the work that is objective and measurable is this. I had a Leupold 6x36 M8 set aside for this barrel. I assembled the rifle, installed the scope base and rings, mounted the scope and squared everything to the receiver. I always optically center scopes before bore-sighting to see just how aligned the D&T work is with the bore. Well, after mounting the scope I put the bore-sighter in. Absolutely dead center on the bore sighter target image. I've never seen that before with any rifle, including my MGM Encore barrels. Now I can't wait to shoot it!

Selmer - nice combination. Enjoy!

Yes the Shuttleworth's do excellent work, Paul and Gail. Plus their service is par excellence. They also do repairs on original Stevens. Driving up to Dingmans Ferry next week with several 44's in need of parts

And the nice part about a 44 1/2 - one can as Selmer did, just keeping adding to only one action.
I'm finished: Schuetzen & Silhouette stocks - 4 barrels: 32-40, 38-72, 40-65 and 45-70, one vernier with front globe and Fecker scopes on each barrel. Enables me to shoot Schuetzen, steel, gong and target matches with iron or scopes all the way to 1000yds

You can change out the sights to change the personality of the rifle too. Since I shot the photos of mine I swapped out the 16x Lyman Super Targetspot for an 8x Lyman Junior Targetspot. As mine is a hunting rifle, it feels much better with the smaller scope.

I went with the modern scope mounting option as well as blocks for the original J. Stevens 6x external adjustment scope that came with the factory package. I couldn't wait to shoot it, so I took a test run. I put together 5 rounds with 16 gr. 2400 and a 311299, light crimp with a Lee FCD. Set up the target at 100 yds, no scope adjustments and shot a 5 shot group. I can cover it with a nickel, dead center, 4" low. Needless to say I'm more than pleased and have passed my thanks and compliments on to Gail and Paul. I'll be back to them for another barrel, probably a low-pressure .22 or 6mm, then round it out with a classic BP cartridge like the .38-55. But those are in the distant future after adoption costs are paid for.

Both of those rifles are sweeeet! I think I could get used to the 32-40 cartridge real quick.

I'm fond of the .32-40 too, but I've read this by Paul a few times, and it has me seriously thinking .32-20.

Paul Shuttleworth's match rifle is a Stevens-Pope 32-20. Should you have the opportunity to visit the CPA shop - ask Paul to show you his 32-20. It's in the safe in the shop along with targets he's shot at 200yds that will make you honestly drool with envy!
PS: Daughter Gail is an eagle eye match shooter also
