In today's casting session my sprue cuts started getting what I can only describe as torn or crystilized.

What causes this????

You are running very hot and have to wait longer to cut, turn the pot down or cool the sprue with a damp cloth.

Thanks 44man,

So I'm just rushing things! Will try the damp cloth. I just received my double cavity Lee 379-250 RF mold this week. I taken an 8 year hiatus from boolit casting and was just getting back into it.

From reading this site I've learned new Lee molds can have some quirks. Mine is producing good boolits from the first session. Guess I'm lucky, my rifle has a .379 groove diameter, both cavities are dropping .380" boolits.

The only thing I hate about my Lee molds are the crap, thin sprue plates with the little, bitty taper that a ladle leaks lead from. I keep thinking about making new ones but am too lazy. :-D
