Made a few bullets from my latest die. Simply reformed a Sierra 85 grain prohunter 243 bullet in my 8s ogive with a flat base. Turned out pretty darn good I think.

Here you can see a bunch of the reformed bullets next to one of the original Sierra bullets.

L to R, Sierra 85 grain pro hunter, reswaged in my 8s ogive .243 die and a 80 grain .243 with the 8s ogive made from cut 17 HMR brass. I could have formed the tip a bit more on the brass jacketed bullet but the core was custom made for a 6s ogive so with the 8s the lead was at the top already and made for a bit shorter and slightly wider nose meplat.

L to R, 85 grain Sierra, reswaged 85 grain Sierra, Custom 8s 80 grain from 17hmr, custom 80 grain 6s from 17hmr and a 6s 56 grain 224 from 22lr.

Some day I'll get to dial in a good load for these new 8s 6mms. I was able to make the 6s 80 grain from brass shoot very well from my 6mmbr

More to come. So busy with work, not much time to have fun with new bullets and calibers.

Good shooting and swage on!

How are you processing the 17's?

Trimming them or expanding them without trimming?

I have a 243 wssm that has never been shot its about seven years old I would like a full set of swaging dies for it how much and will they be available this year. I also have a custom made 270 on a mauser action I just inherited from my DADS estate. they used coffee cans at 300 yds for fun. I know you have several fires going at one time but I would like to get on a list. I ordered a press from Richard last year.

I also would like 6mm dies. Can you swage heavier than 80 gr? Boat tails?

Cody,

That's your die if it meets your needs. You can choose between the 6s or the 8s. PM sent.

Nickle,

I trimmed the 17s just behind the shoulder before I derimed them. I made a simple jig on my RCBS case trimmer that indexes off the rim of the case. Basically a 22 mag chamber that cut the case off around .750 IIRC. Then used the HF mini chop saw to make the cuts. They came out all very uniform. Then simple derim, anneal, clean and good to go. Worked out slick! And the bullets shot well too, at least the 6s pictured in the target with RL-15, I still need to work with the 8s, they didn't like Varget too much for some reason?

Love life,

yes I generally make all my dies capable of making any weight typically found in commercial offerings. For the 6mm, I have made them up to 115 grains using a standard 22 mag case untrimmed.

Randy,

Send me a PM, I'll be happy to set you up with everything you need.

I haven't been around here much, lately... and look at what I'm missing. ;-)

Those look quite nice.

One of these days, when I actually get a chance to shoot, I'll finish testing the 6mm samples you sent me. I still owe you (and other interested parties) a review and range report.
Then, of course, I can move on to the part where I send you my money and you send me some dies.

I just need to get the whole "buy a house" thing taken care of so I can shoot. This stupid housing market is killing me. The listings go down in quality as the prices go up. ***?!!
I do have a line on some acreage bordering BLM land. I'd still have to wait for a house to be built, but we'll see what happens....

I sent RCE a check today, I ordered last winter a Walnut hill press 243 Dies with 8S spitzer ogive(FBOT) dies should be ready in 2 weeks, my press, core cutter, core mould and lube is ready, wire will about a week. I was going to buy j4 jackets today but I don't know the length I need to make 90 to 95gr bullets does any one here know the right length? I need a chart for this.
Thanks

I used some J4 in some testing. The 1.050 would make a 107gr and the 1.150 would make a 115gr in a 8S FBOT. All My equipment is RCE. Based on that I would think the .900 jacket would make the 90-95gr bullet. You can call Berger and ask for some samples in the various lengths and they will sent you a few of each.

I ordered a basket of .900 J4 jackets today 242.00 for 1700 they should last till I decide what to try next.
They said that was what I needed. They don't do samples anymore.
Thanks
